Jorge Vela came to the United States at the age of 19 after playing for the U20 & U23 Guatemalan national teams as a goalkeeper. Jorge's life has been marked by soccer, starting as a player, moving into coaching, and now being a parent to two young soccer players. Jorge now coaches for his and his wife, Kit Vela, soccer academy the vela soccer academy. They train youth players from Albuquerque, New Mexico to hone their skills and knowledge of the game.

Kit was the coach for the UNM Women's Soccer team for 14 seasons, where she led the team to the NCAA tournament in 2011 & 2012. Kit and her husband Jorge now run The Vela Soccer Academy in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where they train youth players and with a focus on skill on the ball and game awareness. Kit is also the director of tecball in New Mexico, as well as a mother of 2.
