Today I grab a glass to speak with filmmaker Michael Glover Smith about his new feature "Relative" which has been garnering critical acclaim through the Chicago film circuit. Mike and I discuss why we choose to stay in Chicago over Los Angeles, our love for independent film, Batman 1989, classic cinema, the healing process of film, and why Mr. Smith's movie about family stands above most of the rest.

All information on Relative can be found on its official site here: https://www.chicagofilmproject.com/relative/

Every year Chicago's top critics pick their favorite movies from the prestigious film festivals held around the country, to bring to audiences in the midwest at the historic Music Box Theater. This year offered some real f****d movies with lots to talk about.

Breaking down these films with me are longtime couple and critics, Al and Linda Learner from MoviesandShakers.com

My interview with Stefan Forbes, Director of Hold Your Fire. And Ceci Cleary, Producer on To Leslie. https://soundcloud.com/user-114056851/hold-your-fire-and-to-leslie-interviews

The top critics of Chicago pick the best movies from the premiere festivals around the U.S. and bring them to the west coast for a seven-day celebration of cinema.

Covering the movies we all saw is Al and Linda Learner from Movies and Shakers https://moviesandshakers.com/ We almost agree on every movie except for one. Which one? You'll have to listen to find out!

I interview documentary filmmaker Stefan Forbes about the toxic masculine culture that dominates our police force instead of embracing the nonviolent negotiation tactics of Harvey Schlossberg. A tactic that is proven to save thousands of lives. I implore you to see "Hold Your Fire." Opening today, May 20, 2022, at the Gene Siskel Film Center and Wilmette Theater.

Later I speak with Ceci Cleary, Producer on "To Leslie," a film about a Texas woman who wins the lottery but blows all the money on booze. Ceci discusses the need for help, especially during the COVID-19 Pandemic.

A night that should be remembered for Coda's historic win for the deaf community is instead drowned in Oscar drama.
