Young World Federalists episodes

  • Events: Who on Earth Wants a World Government?
Dr. Farsan Ghassim, Junior Research Fellow in Politics at the Queen's College, University of Oxford, presents "Who on Earth Wants a World Government? What Kind and Why?", an international survey experiment co-authored with Dr. Marcus Pauli and published in International Studies Quarterly. He explains why the question matters, how different kinds of world government (unspecified, democratic, focused on global issues) change public support, and what surveys in many countries found. The talk is followed by questions from the audience on method, peace and conflict, and what this means for world federalists.
Recorded in a Young World Federalists webinar on 18 November 2024, hosted by Eston McKeague, President of YWF.

  • Book Club: Book Club 2: Can Peace Come Through Internationalism?
The second YWF Book Club meeting we recorded, from 9 October 2022, on Emery Reves's The Anatomy of Peace, chapter 11, and Lucio Levi's article "World Federalism and the War in Ukraine". In a short recorded discussion, the group asks whether peace can be achieved through internationalism, why it leads to war, and how sharing sovereignty differs. They then turn to Levi's proposals on the war in Ukraine and argue that a ceasefire should be a call to action for a world federation.

A small group talks about how the club has been going, what they made of the reading from The Anatomy of Peace, and how to record future meetings and turn the discussions into articles and videos about world federalism. They also settle the schedule and topic for the next meeting.
