As I’ve said before, I feed a family of big breakfast eaters! Some mornings, serving breakfast around here resembles opening a barn darn and the animals fleeing the barn to run to their grain troughs.

Christmas on the Jones Ranch was uneventful and perfect. We have too many cows relying on simple life sustaining measures like having their ice chopped to drink and being fed that keeps us home, even on holidays.

Twas the Friday before Christmas and all through the ranch not a creature was stirring because they are all frozen!

There are a lot of things I could talk about today. Like what made into policy in 2022, what didn’t make it into law. Where we made some headway in the industry and where we lost ground. But, honestly, on a day like today, at the end of a week like we have all had, that doesn’t need to be our focus.

When I was a ten- or twelve-year-old boy, my mom, dad and 2 sisters would join my mother’s sister and her family. We exchanged gifts and had a delicious dinner. My father opened the event by thanking God that we could all be together on the farm after a safe harvest.
