I could not let June pass by without celebrating National Dairy Month! National Dairy Month started out as National Milk Month in 1937 as a way to promote drinking milk. On Wednesday I was tuning into the sale at Bassett Livestock, when the king of Cowtown, Shane Kaczor announced that they had 1000 weigh-ups and would have to sell the last 200 of them after the pairs and breds. I mean, this isn’t November, this is the middle of JUNE and the cows just keep coming to town, for the second year in a row.

In communities across the land, it is summer celebration season! Listening to the radio as you are driving along checking cows or knocking down hay, it is right in front of you, we are in the middle of what makes rural America great, celebrating community!

Sunday this week was Father’s Day. I am not sure that the fathers of our children are given the appreciation and respect that they deserve. Of course, I am talking about the fathers that step up and do their share in raising their children.

I am always looking for new ways to use my garden goodies in the kitchen. Is the word I am looking for, “utilitarian”? Like, I want nothing to go to waste. I want to utilize every little bit of garden goodness.

If anyone thinks that life on the ranch slows down and becomes a beautiful western, romantic novel during the summer months, they are actually reading a dystopian fiction novel!

It seems like most of the midwest from from a cool spring to squelching summer, in a hurry!

Welcome to fun, fact Friday! As spring gardens perk up and cool season crops roll in, how could we not focus on the bright pink, radiant radish! It is a garden staple in back yard gardens and a definite attention getter in any produce section.

It has been fascinating to me to watch certain ag media and economists throwing a party over these fat cattle prices. I guess when that is your job, to report markets, it could be exciting. But, let’s get back to the real world.
