This morning at Cathedral, Rob Sturdy preaches on Isaiah 61:1-4 and the Year of Jubilee. How has the Jubilee Man come to set us free from bondage? Rob reminds us that God's people bear the responsibility of bringing both physical and spiritual restoration that was bought for us in the death and resurrection of Jesus.

This week at the Cathedral, the Rev. Dr. Erin Clifford is our guest preacher. She teaches from the book of Jeremiah and Psalm 1 to remind us that God desires to renew our hearts. Our heart is an important part of who we are, and God desires to give our hearts rest as He transforms us.

In Luke 4:14-30, the people from Jesus' hometown reject the message of the Messiah. Who is the Gospel good news for? When Jesus reads from the Prophet Isaiah, He shows us that the Gospel is good news to those who know they desperately need it.

John 2:1-11 gives an account of the wedding at Cana. The picture of Jesus restoring joy at the celebration of the bridegroom and the bride is a sign and foreshadowing of the provision of Jesus on the cross. On the cross, God proves, through Christ, His intent to keep His vows to us--that He will never leave nor forsake His children, even on their worst days. How can we embody this promise through the way that we care for the world and one another?

Who is the one who sees a tender reed but will not break it? Who can hold a faintly burning wick but not quench it? This week Dean Peet reminds us that Jesus is the one of whom the prophet speaks in Isaiah 42. Jesus is the one who will come to enact justice but also carry and protect the weak.
