Delane Parnell is the founder of PlayVS, a fast-rising esports platform specializing in high schools. Launched in 2017, PlayVS is the official operator of esports in high schools in 15 U.S. states (and counting), and has raised nearly $100mil - half of that in their latest Series C round of a whopping $50mil. Investors include Diddy, Michael Ovitz, Science and more. Born and raised in Detroit, 27-year old Delane has been working since he was 13, was at one point the youngest Black venture capitalist in the country, and has owned and sold companies since he was a teenager.

In this bonus episode we travel back to late 2017 when I interviewed “unicorn” founder (meaning her company is worth more than a billion dollars) Therese Tucker. This pink haired, soft-spoken powerhouse has mostly flown under the radar but has a strong message for listeners: you can it, too.
Detroit native Melissa Butler is the founder of beauty brand The Lip Bar, which has become a nationwide phenomenon. Melissa obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Finance from Florida A & M University before working on Wall Street as a licensed stock broker. In 2012 she made a life pivot and grew an indie upstart into what has become a multimillion dollar business. The Lip Bar has a flagship store in Detroit, and can be found in nearly 500 Target locations nationwide.
