Can You Be Forgiven After an Abortion but Still Need Healing?
Karen Luksch knew God had forgiven her for her abortion, yet the experience continued to affect her life, marriage, and future pregnancies in ways she did not fully recognize. Can someone receive Christ’s forgiveness and still carry emotional and relational wounds that need healing?
In this episode of Your Healing Place, Karen shares how fear, pride, family expectations, and pressure from her fiancé influenced her abortion decision shortly before their wedding. Although she later rededicated her life to Christ and asked God for forgiveness, she describes the abortion as a “ball and chain” that continued to follow her.
Years later, Karen participated in the Forgiven and Set Free abortion recovery Bible study. She entered the program believing she was doing it to serve An Even Place, but quickly realized God had brought her there for her own healing. The study uncovered fear, grief, and unresolved feelings toward her husband that had remained hidden for decades.
An honest conversation with her husband also revealed that he had carried grief and responsibility for the abortion in his own way. Their story shows how abortion can affect both women and men, how unspoken pain can remain within a marriage, and how bringing that pain into the light can open the door to healing.
Karen also shares what it meant to acknowledge the life of her child, write a letter, participate in a memorial, and trust that she will one day see her child in heaven. Her testimony is a reminder that receiving forgiveness and experiencing freedom are sometimes different parts of the healing journey.
