On today's episode, we hear from Yeve Sibanda - a Zimbabwean Black woman immigrant who worked in "Big Law" for many years. "Big Law" refers to firms on the AmLaw 200 List, and they tend to employ thousands of lawyers worldwide. One of the reasons law grads covet working at a Big Law firm is that the compensation packages are huge (the average starting salary is around 190K base for fresh law school graduates).
Yeve tells us how she broke into a Big Law firm a few years after graduating from American University with her J.D. and how she held onto her Big Law job for over 6 years - as a Black woman, immigrant, and mom. If you've ever been the "only person who looks like you" in a corporate space, this episode will surely resonate with you.
