When I serve my spouse I also serve Christ, and when I learn to handle that relationship in a way that pleases the Lord, I subsequently please my husband. The goal of the life of a Christ-follower is to please the Lord in whatever we do. We can and should apply this as foundational to the life of discipleship. But consider widening its scope to include your marriage–to have the goal of pleasing God with your marriage. Here is the choice—are you going to respond with love in a way that pleases God, or react to the emotions of the moment? By making it our goal to please God in our marriages, we will show the world that marriage can have a higher purpose. The world watches to see the difference the love of God can make in our relationships.
