Your mother’s eyes

Listen Later

Written for my lovely daughter Jessey's birthday

Happy Birthday Jessey!

Your mother’s eyes

Here it is early fall, winter prognosticators are making

their call

When will the first flakes arrive and how much do you think

will fall

But I tune out those guys, there’s something way bigger

under October skies

My daughter’s birthday, the woman with the golden smile and

her mother’s eyes

Oh, she has her daddy’s profile! Look she’s so pretty,

inherited her mom’s style

You try to be polite, but like your mom I still see your

eyes roll once in a while

People always pointing, family reunions can get to be so

disjointing

I can’t believe you cut your hair! Random reactions can be so

disappointing

But I don’t really pay them attention, a special day has

arrived, a blessed intention

It’s Jessey’s birthday! Time to celebrate, friends let’s

have a cake-filled convention

Light the candles hush the room as you rise, smiles abound

hey it’s no surprise

Your happy glow, fun-loving joyful beauty complimented by

your mother’s eyes

I’m so happy to watch you smile, as you should cause you

always go the extra mile

Tear open your gifts, eat way too much cake, look foolish

and act like a little child

We only get so many tries, yeah you know it’s true what they

say time really flies

Make the most of each day, give me a hug and kiss; smile at

me with your mother’s eyes
