Concerts for Democracy is a live concert and non-partisan workshop series focused on helping audience members find and use their voice towards positive change. Headlined by world-renowned "art-ivist" Eljuri, this event brings the community together through music and offers access to voter registration opportunities through Headcount.org.
This will be coming to the Lehigh Valley on Saturday October 5th, 2024 to the Inkwell venue in Allentown and will feature many more ways to learn and enjoy and come together. Info about Concerts for Democracy at Inkwell.
So this episode we welcome the founder and owner of Inkwell Kyle Edwards as our guest co-host to share more about the artist-led space and how "everyone is welcome at the well". We'll also hear from Eljuri about her legacy and these Concerts for Democracy. And we'll also hear from fellow musician and passionate advocate for voting rights - Gina Zo of Velvet Rouge.
Please take a moment to enjoy these people's commitment to their communities and the American right to vote, as well as their art and excellence on display.
If you live near Allentown, PA, we hope you might join for this free event on Sat 10/5. And if not we hope you take a moment to confirm you're registered to vote, that you know where your polling place is, and that you know your candidates and which ones represent your more important values.

Join Phillip & David as they play catch-up - they'll recap everything that has happened since Musikfest, while trying not to reference the festival by name. They'll touch on shows they've seen, concerts and festivals coming up in Oct, Nov and Dec, and some new music they're in to. They'll share some live recordings they got of Patty PerShayla & the Mayhaps and ARKAI. They also have a recording of David's return to the stage after a number of years!
They'll also promote the upcoming Concerts for Democracy at Inkwell in Allentown PA on Sat 10/5/2024 featuring Eljuri, as well as announce the dates for the Winter WonderJam on Friday 12/6/2024, and Listen to the Dissonance on Friday 2/28/2025.

Approaching the release of their third album, we sit down with all 5 members of We're From Antarctica: Paco Brown, Jessie Rae, Jon Blanco, Mac Kressley, and Chris Rauch - who are all...in the band.
We discuss their Antarctican origin story as a band, and also how each of them found music and their journey to join forces. We also explore their catalog and touch on their evolution and how their sound has matured at each stage. They recently were a part of a cool project called Ocean Avenue - an Emo/Pop-Punk Musical and how they were hand-picked for that.
In addition to great music, they also have some wonderful videos. We specifically spend time with "Misdirection" which is inspired by the wild and amazing show Danger 5, and directed by the incredible talented Haoyan of America
http://haoyanofamerica.com/.
Take the trip with us to Antarctica (really the Lehigh Valley) and learn why their music has the vibe of what you'd put on while cooking dinner for a friend you've secretly been in love with for 2 years now.
Thank you to The Flying V Poutinerie for letting us record up in their Live at the V space for this episode.

Even when you hear the description "genre-defying electro-acoustic duo" that does not even begin to describe the brilliance that is ARKAI. Jonathan Miron and Philip Sheegog are Julliard trained, but not limited by the constraints that classical training can sometimes put up - and perhaps even hold dear.
The soundscapes that they are dreaming up and orchestrating are mind-bending, and you have to see it to believe it. They can often sound like a full orchestra of players, but it is just the two of them. And they generate some of the most beautiful, sweet tones, balance with some heavier rock elements that delight. I often find myself smiling just listening and watching them perform.
Their recent release Crossroads is a journey. We spend time hearing all about it, and the many stories behind the music, as well as the gorgeous videos that shot for the 3 singles out thus far.
We'll also hear about their early inspirations - amazingly Jonathan was handed a cello first, but had to switch to violin, and Philip wanted to play music listening to his sister play violin, and was invited to take up the cello. This type of beautiful symmetry and the universe being on their side shows up time and again in the story of ARKAI. Enjoy!

In this episode, a bunch of Hoookers stop by! Blair Crimmins is very much to blame for our show even becoming a thing. About 3 years ago, before I even had any interviews under my belt, I asked him if he'd be willing to come on for an interview and, without hesitation, said "yes". So he became interview #1.
2 years ago we brought on the rest of the band, and so we will do that again this year, however this time we'll spend some time "gettin nerdy" about their instruments and how they achieve that sound that immediately whisks you off to another time and place.
Come join the fun and be a Hooker too!

As mentioned on the Musikfest Exordium last night, we had the privilege of scheduling time with frontman of Dustbowl Revival - Z Lupetin, in advance of their performance at the Fest on Sat 8/10.
Before they hit the road with their booty-shakin americana folk soul, Z sat down with us virtually from SoCal to share this tremendous band's story and music. This is one of the top bands on the list this year, and was definitely a "holy crap that's on the free stage" moment for us.
Z has been a writer and a musician since a young age, in bands since he was in 8th grade. It was film school and a desire to be a screenwriter that brought him to Los Angeles, but the never-ending need to be in a band had him turn to Craig's List to start one up out there. And thus Dustbowl Revival was born.
This 7 piece joyride of sound has had a core throughout, and always surrounded by incredible talent to round things out. We'll dive in to their catalog and spend time with some special tracks specifically to hear the backstory and inspiration behind them, as well as the evolution and maturation for the early years to today.
Z will also perform live acoustic during the interview! Don't miss this unique opportunity. And go see them live whenever they are near. If you catch the show in Bethlehem, PA at Musikfest and you see me there, stop by and say hi!

She performs "Out Is Down" and "Someone To Help You"
mrnoname is an alt-pop duo with the unique arrangement of Noah on vocals, samples, and either keys or ukelele and Logan on drums. Their hardcharging, dancey alternative is extremely fun and will catch your ear even if this isn't typically your genre.
They perform "Obsession" and "Alive"
