Sometimes looking back at our past can bring up feelings of regret or pain, but what if instead of viewing previous parts of our life through a negative lens, we could choose to see the beauty? Learning to live in the moment and be present where our feet are while appreciating where we came from will bring a sense of peace and purpose. Rick Baker shares with us his story of overcoming drug addiction, and PTSD, and using it all to fuel a greater purpose that he is incredibly proud of.
Rick Baker grew up in Montana, and after graduating, he joined the United States Army and spent 4.5 years serving his Country where he obtained the rank of Sargent and served 1 combat tour in the Middle East in the Infantry. Upon his return home, he received several awards and medals, and eventually retired from the Military after he sustained an injury. Through this time, Rick battled an opioid addiction and nightmares from his time in active duty. Eventually, Rick persevered through rehab and personal development and went on to pursue a degree in Psychiatric Rehabilitation. Rick also worked for Tumbleweed where he was a victim advocate/case manager for human trafficking victims. He went on to found Metal Tech where he creates decorative artwork, and also runs a project close to his heart: Hoodies For Heroes.
In this episode, Rick shares his story of being in the depths of addiction, experiencing PTSD after his time in the Army, going to prison, and finally receiving his wake-up call to turn things around. Rick’s message to you is that you don't have to be defined by your past and it is never too late to redevelop yourself. It is never a good time to stop developing yourself because it is not an end game, it is a full process.
