Imposter syndrome is a word I am sure you have heard kicked around on the internet. This syndrome affects so many entrepreneurs. For some, it hinders progressing to the road of success.
Ali Joseph is the managing director of The Virtual Solutionist for two years. She specializes in helping small businesses get organized and operationally efficient.
Throughout her years owning The Virtual Solutionist and spending years in a corporate position, she has encountered many types of people with imposter syndrome.
Imposter syndrome is people who believe that they are undeserving of their achievements and the high esteem in which they are, in fact, generally held. They feel that they aren’t as competent or intelligent as others might think—and that soon enough, people will discover the truth about them. Those with imposter syndrome are often well accomplished; they may hold high office or have numerous academic degrees.
There are many types of imposter syndrome. Ali breaks down the perfectionist, soloist, superwoman/superman, and the natural genius imposter syndromes. I’m pretty sure you might know someone that has some of these characteristics or it might be even describing you!
One of my favorite quotes from this episode is, “Your clients are looking for results, not perfection.” Instead of worrying about what type of font to make your logo, put your focus on creating a great experience for your customer. Some people get too swept up on the minute details instead of focusing on what the customer really needs.
Ali tell us how to get out of the imposter syndrome mindset. This mindset, for some, leads into a brick wall when it comes to success. It can hinder your growth as an entrepreneur.
