What if your consciousness⊠isnât actually in your brain?
Robert Monroe didnât just talk about out-of-body experiencesâhe tested them. And in at least one bold experiment, the results suggested consciousness could be active outside the brain.
In the early days of the Monroe Institute, physicist Tom Campbell and audio engineer Dennis Mennerich joined Monroe in controlled experiments using Hemi-Sync audio. They would lie in separate rooms, wearing headphones, entering deep âmind awake / body asleepâ states.
But the goal wasnât just to have an experience.
đ It was to go on an out-of-body journey togetherâand compare notes afterward.
And this is where it got interestingâŠ
Tom and Dennis began reporting the same environments and interactionsâwithout communicating beforehand. In some sessions, they even attempted to meet each other in these non-physical states.
Afterward, they wrote everything down independently.
When they compared their notes, they often matched in striking waysâdetails, timing, and experiences lining up far beyond coincidence.
To them, this suggested something radical:
đ These werenât just dreams or hallucinations created by the brain
đ There appeared to be a shared, consistent space of awareness they could access
While not considered formal scientific proof, these synchronized experiences became some of the most compelling evidence suggesting that consciousness might operate independently of the physical brain.
And what they found raises a wild question:
đ Is the brain the source of consciousness⊠or just the receiver?
In this video, we break down Monroeâs experiments, the methods he used, and how his work continues to influence modern research into consciousness and altered states.
Whether youâre curious, skeptical, or already exploring these states yourselfâthis may change how you see what âyouâ really are.
