Glad to see you back. This is you’re listening to radio revel, Season two: The shepherd's story. Today, you’ve got Episode five: A child unwanted .
Menoetes doesn't share this story with his great-grandson. Instead, his memories, brought on by the stories he has told Demophon up to now begin to run circles around in his mind, bringing on a sleepless night.
Thebes has a new king, but this king brings with him the ire of the gods, as well as a pinch of his own bad fate. Though the king, Laius, tries to stick to the advice given him by the Oracle, his human weakness and, more importantly, his hubris lead him to fall into the trap of that fate. His destiny is written.

Welcome back to you’re listening to radio revel, Season two: The shepherd’s story. This is Epsiode four: Before a fall.
In this Episode I take a step back from the story itself and consider the basic human trait that brings about all of the tragedy involved.
I wanted to talk about this trait particularly at this time. I felt I was ignoring current events by plowing ahead with a story that was told so long ago. Then I found that I was still able to tie this story into those current events, couched as they are in the oversized egos of the self-made "heroes" that have brought our actual state of events into being.
I will return to the story next week, this episode of commentary is just a quick pause in the flow.
For those tuning in later, you’ll note that this oral essay was created in April of 2022.
Come back for the story, and subscribe if you like it.

Thanks for tuning in again to you’re listening to radio revel, Season two: The shepherd’s story. This is Episode two, The Oracle of Apollo.
Mortals seem to have often sought the wisdom of the heavenly beings that watch over their lives. In Ancient Greece, there seemed to be an oracle on every street corner, speaking for a god that controlled any aspect of daily life.
Of all the oracles, though, the Oracle of Delphi, where Apollo spoke through the trance of the Pythia, brought pilgrims from far and wide looking for advice and consul.
Menoetes explains to his grandson, Delophon, the workings of this Oracle. Who was the Pythia? Who spoke to the questions posed by pilgrims? How did the answers received change the lives of those who asked?

Welcome back. Thank you for tuning into the second season of you’re listening to radio revel. Yes, some time has gone by without a word from me.
And now, after imagining this season for months, it's finally being written and produced.
Season two: The shepherd's story, is a breakaway from the first, somewhat rambling-thought-filled season. This time I am retelling of a well-known story from Greek mythology.
Funny how, on telling this story which I've told so many times over the years, I can see more clearly how history and parable meld to help us better understand the world surrounding us.
So, though I am not sharing my own thoughts and opinions of current events this time season (except for a quick digression here or there!), I am trying to shed light on them through remembering the past, and how people in those seemingly remote times received information that helped them manage their own behavior.
As always, thanks for listening, and tell others about the show. Oh yeah, subscribe please.
Not much to say except thanks for listening to the first season of radio revel.
I say I made 44 episodes, but on saving this one, I see it's actually number 46. So, I was closer to 50 than I thought!
I expect to be back in late January, and probably with a total remake of the podcast. Hope you'll check me out then, and tell your friends.
Cheers and be safe this holiday season, stay home, celebrate under your own roof with those who share that roof with you.
The holidays will probably be back in 2021.

Hey all.
Yeah, it's been a couple of weeks. Yeah, any excuse would be lame, so not bothering!
Hope you enjoy this episode, it's longer because it's kind of one-and-a-half episodes all in one.
Remember, transcript can be read on the radio revel blog.
Cheers!
Hey all.
