Just a quick reminder that you are not a burden. I'm sharing examples of things that do not qualify you as a burden, but just a normal person navigating life.
Show Notes:
I am just here to remind you that you are not a burden.
You might feel like a burden to many people in your life, even having others tell you you’re a burden, but it doesn’t mean that you are.
Being a burden can be seen as bringing down others, letting people down or bringing shame on others because of what you’re going through. It could be seen as falling into negative behaviors, relapsing back into an addiction or being stuck in a negative attitude because of your current season of life.
But what you’re dealing with is the burden. It’s a heavyweight to bear & you’re doing the best you can.
A lot of times we appear to be a burden to others because we haven’t found the right support system yet. We tend to lean on those we feel the most safe with, people that have been there for us before, those that demonstrate strength to us. But sometimes these people are not as strong as we once thought. And they can be dealing with their own struggles, so leaning on them isn’t the most helpful. That doesn’t mean they can’t help or won’t help, but might not be the most helpful during certain times.
But it’s not the appearing to be a burden that causes the most trouble. The biggest issue is you believing you are a burden to others or even yourself.
I’ll admit, it sucks when people slap labels on you. I was called a burden from a young age because I was an unexpected responsibility. The shame of being a burden only grew from there as my problems increased. Which means this thought is a belief deeply rooted in my core belief system because it’s been there so long. And I’m sure that is how a lot of us come to believe this lie.
Today I want to review a list of things we naturally, yet incorrectly, use to identify ourselves as a burden to others. This list is full of common struggles many of us go through that can cause us to believe we are a burden because we require support from others. Support that is not as even as it usually is.
Let me remind you that you’re not a burden because:
