Sri Lanka gained its independence from British on 4th February 1948, just a year after India. It's a beautiful country with rich bio-diversity, flora and fauna. However not too long ago, this nation was torn apart by a long standing civil war. The conflict sowed deep divisions and hostility between the island’s two main groups—the majority Sinhalese and the minority Tamils.. In the first part of this three-part series, we’ll dive deep into the heart of the Sri Lankan conflict, exploring the civil war that tore the island apart and shattered its social fabric. We’ll also uncover its profound impact on the diverse communities that call Sri Lanka home. So get ready, as we take you back to where it all began.
