She challenges the conventional definition of what 'excellence' is and explains why black excellence cannot only be celebrated when people thrive in 'reputable’ ways - academic performance, entrepreneurial advancements, owning a German car, owning an apartment in SA's fancy suburbs, or speaking with a Model-C accent. She explains that from experience and observation, the current definition of black excellence excludes a vast majority of black people who are excelling in different ways and may leave them feeling inadequate and like under performers.
