Herkese merhaba! Today we start a series. We will read texts from the first topics of Turkish and talk about them. In this episode, which is the first part of the series, we’ll read a text that contains a lot of letters that are difficult to pronounce in Turkish. After listening to this text, I suggest you go to the website and read the text aloud. Let's get started!

First, let me tell you which letters in Turkish are likely tricky to pronounce (though you probably already know them quite well): c as in cam, soft g as in ağaç, ı as in ışık, ö as in ördek, ş as in şarkı, and ü as in üzüm.

    Now let’s read the text.

Hello and welcome to my podcast! There were many mistakes in the text you just listened to (I have to be honest, I had a hard time not correcting the mistakes while reading, teacher reflex). Some of you have probably already noticed these mistakes. But for some of you, I know that they sounded quite right, and that's why in today’s episode, we’ll be discussing common mistakes made by people who are learning Turkish. As we all know, learning a language is not an easy process, and especially if you’re a Turkish learner, yeah I know buddy… Making mistakes is a natural part of this journey. There are certain aspects of Turkish that learners often struggle with. We’ll go over these errors with examples and discuss how to correct them.I hope you are making some of these mistakes and after this episode you will not do it again!  If you're ready, let's get started!

First, I’d like to talk about possessive suffixes. Many people learning Turkish think that simply saying “benim, senin, onun” is enough to express possession. But this is not entirely correct. In Turkish, you also need to use a suffix on the noun to indicate possession. For example, saying “benim anne” is incorrect. The correct way to say it is “benim annem.”

  • We had a chat in Turkish! - Let's learn some words and expressions in Turkish!

In this episode we had a more casual conversation. What kind of expressions do Turks use when sharing their opinions with someone in daily life, what kind of intonation do they use and what kind of unique reactions do they sometimes give that are not available in other languages? And the most fun part of this episode for me is that I want you to answer these questions too! :) So let's get started!

C: Merhaba, bugün senin için ilginç sorular hazırladım! Hazırsan başlayalım!

E: Heyecanlandım şimdi! Tamam, hazırım, hadi başlayalım!

C: Tamam, ilk sorum şu: Şu an tam olarak nerede olmak isterdin?

E: Hmm… Yani, bi düşüneyim, şu an nerede olmak isterim.
