一回目に死んだのは、僕が中学生の時。

The first time he died was when I was a junior high school student.

じいちゃんは急に仕事に行かなくなった。

Grandpa suddenly stopped going to work.

それから

From that time

じいちゃんは家で一日中寝るようになった。

Grandpa went to sleep at home all day long.

じいちゃん、どうしたの。

Grandpa, what's the matter?

嫌なことでもあったの。

Did you have a bad time?

僕は怖くて聞けなかった。

I was scared and couldn't ask.

じいちゃんは酒も飲まないし煙草も吸わない。

Grandpa doesn't drink or smoke.

お米を育てたり、メロンを育てたり

Cultivating rice, cultivating melons

仕事をすることがじいちゃんの喜びだった。

Working was the purpose of grandpa's life.

じいちゃんは細々とした声で言った。

Grandpa said in a small voice.

もう死にたい。

I want to die already.

じいちゃんは、年を取って働けなくなったのが辛かったんだ。

僕は仲良しだったじいちゃんと、離れて暮らしていた。

I lived away from my good friend Grandpa.

でも、久しぶりにじいちゃんに会えた。

But I saw my grandpa for the first time in a long time.

仲良しだった、大好きなじいちゃんだ。

He was a good friend and my favorite grandpa.

でも、じいちゃんは僕に言った。

But Grandpa said to me.

はじめまして

Nice to meet you.

じいちゃん、僕だよ。

Grandpa, it's me.

忘れてしまったの？

Did you forget me?

子供の頃、僕を毎日トラックに乗せて

When I was a kid, you put me on the track

学校まで、送り迎えしてくれたよね？

and picked me up at school every day, didn't you?

夏になると、朝早く起きて一緒に

In summer, we got up early in the morning

カブトムシを取りに行ったよね？

お母さんが、何回も僕に電話してきた。

僕は気付かなかった。

じいちゃんは、天国からお迎えが来たらしい。

僕は、じいちゃんと最後一緒にいられなかったんだ。

I couldn't stay with my grandpa at the end.

ごめんね、じいちゃん。

I'm sorry, Grandpa.

僕は、本当に最低な孫だ。

I'm really the worst grandson.

じいちゃんは僕にいろんなものをくれた。

Grandpa gave me a lot of things.

お金も時間も、じいちゃんは僕に全てをくれたんだ。

Grandpa gave me everything, money and time.

でも僕は、何もできなかった。

But I couldn't do anything.

じいちゃんが一回目に死んだ時も

Even when my grandpa died for the first time

じいちゃんが二回目に死んだ時も

Even when my grandpa died for the second time

もう一回、じいちゃんに会いたいな。

I want to see my grandpa again.

じいちゃん、もう一回会いたいよ。

Grandpa, I want to see you again.

またじいちゃんのラーメン食べさせてよ。

Let me eat your ramen again.

じいちゃんが作るラーメンは、世界一美味しかったよ。

The ramen that you made was the best in the world.

また一緒にスーパーに買い物に行こうよ。

Let's go shopping at the supermarket together again.

じいちゃんと一緒なら、どこに行くのも楽しかった
