The Prophet ﷺ said, 'Allah SWT said by My Might and Majesty I will keep forgiving them as long as they keep invoking me for forgiveness' .... and as long as the Prophet ﷺ is with them (Surah 8:33)

Asking for forgiveness is a deed similar to the presence of the Prophet ﷺ as it prevents the wrath of Allah SWT.

"Repel evil with that which is better" (V 97). Repel by being patient when angry and pardon when pained and Allah SWT will protect you and humble your enemy before you.

(V97) I seek refuge in you from the pushing of the shayateen.

A'uthubillah is mentioned as part of the dua of the Prophet's (AS) and the pious in the Quran.

From this dua they were granted various blessings,

Peace & blessings, protection from evil, protection from shameful actions, removal of the accusation of ignorance, bringing the dead to life, destruction of enemies, inheritence of enemy land, acceptance, given health and beauty, son without a father and children who help & protect.

Abu Bakr's (ra) election to the high post was critical to Islam, Abu Hurayah highlights "I swear by the Being besides Whom none other is worthy of worship, None would have been worshiping Allah (SWT) had Abu Bakr (ra) not been appointed as the Khaleefa." (Hayatas Sahabah, Ibn Asaakir)
