Peshischa on the Parsha: Taking a Stop to take Stock - Mar 19, 2020 - We first looked at how the Jewish men brought “above” the women. According to the Sfas Emes it’s because they had to do teshuva for the golden calf- they brought the same passion from their sin into their avodas Hashem, thereby achieving a higher level. We also learned the Sfas Emes’ understanding of how they “stopped from bringing”, which is what we should always make sure- take a step back even during ones avodas Hashem to take stock of why you’re doing the mitzvah- not for the accomplishments or the honors- but for Hashem. We also learned from Reb Simchah Bunim the power of the extra contributions- how they’re most precious because they’re not given out of obligation.

Vayakhel:A Shabbos-esque Reset in Quarantine - Mar 17, 2020 - In understanding why Shabbos is mentioned again at the beginning of Vayakhel, the Chiddyshei HaRim points out that the order changed too. Before the Cheit HaEigel, Shabbos was mentioned afterwards, and now, after the Cheit, Shabbos was mentioned first, before delineating the details of the Mishkan in Vayakhel and Pekudei. The Sfas Emes quotes his grandfather as saying that Bnei Yisrael needed to start with Shabbos in order to infuse the rest of the work week with the proper perspective of value. This predicament now can be seen as an opportunity- to recalibrate our values while we have time at home to daven and learn. IyH when we reenter the world soon we’ll have a reinvigorated perspective with which to engage the world- one of Torah and mitzvos
