The celebration of my father-in-law, the Rebbe’s arrival in the United States thirty years ago isn’t just for those who arrived with him or those who were here before him, but also for those who came after him – because the effort and toil he invested made it easier to serve Hashem here. This is true both on the positive side – transforming America into a place of Torah, and on the preventative side, negating absolutely and decisively the claim that “America is different,” and establishing instead that G‑dliness must be revealed even here. “America is no different” doesn’t just apply to one’s immediate surroundings in his particular city in the United States, nor even just to the United States as a whole, but also to other countries around the world. And not just for Jews (because the United States where the majority of the Jewish people reside), but also to the nations of the world, because Hashem determines many global matters through the United States.
