מעלת נר חמישי דחנוכה: ידוע ב' הדעות בנוגע לנרות חנוכה, שבית שמאי אומרים שביום הא' מדליקים שמונה נרות ו"מכאן ואילך פוחת והולך", ובית הלל אומרים שביום הא' מדליקים נר א' ו"מכאן ואילך מוסיף והולך" [לב"ש העיקר הוא ה"בכח" ו"עולם המחשבה" וביום הא' יש לו את המחשבה ואת ההחלטה על כל הענינים של ח' ימי החנוכה ולכן מדליק אז ח' נרות, משא"כ לב"ה וכו'], וחנוכה ר"ת "ח' נרות והלכה כבית הלל". ועפ"ז נמצא דבנר החמישי דחנוכה הוא הפעם הראשונה שמדליקים יותר נרות לב"ה מלב"ש, והיינו שרואים בעיני בשר, גם בעיני אוה"ע, יותר אור בעוה"ז התחתון ששם צריכים להאיר ע"י נרות חנוכה!; ביחד עם ההתעסקות במבצעים, ובמבצע חנוכה, בכלל‏ – ‏יש לדבר עם בנ"י עד"ז שנשמתם לא הלכה אף פעם לגלות!

Beis Shamai holds that we light eight candles on the first night, and decrease one every night, while Beis Hillel holds that we light one candle on the first night and add one every night. (Beis Shamai focuses on the potential: on the first night one has in mind and decides everything for all the “days to come”; in contrast to Beis Hillel etc.). Chanukah is an acronym for ח' נרות והלכה כבית הלל (“Eight candles and the halacha follows Beis Hillel”). And this is the unique feature of the fifth candle of Chanukah: it is the first night that more candles are lit according to Beis Hillel than according to Beis Shamai, meaning it is visible to the physical eye, and even the gentiles can see, that there is more light in this physical world. When going out on mivtza Chanukah – Jews should be reminded that their soul never went into exile.
