הטעם לפס"ד הגמ' שדוקא מבן עשרים שנה "נושא ונותן בנכסי אביו" מבואר בע"ח כי אז מגיע האדם לשלימות השכל. ועפ"ז מבאר אדה"ז מ"ש [בראשון דפ' במדבר] "שאו את ראש בנ"י לגולגלותם מבן עשרים שנה ומעלה וגו'", דלכאו' ה"גולגולת" הוא רק ענין חיצוני, ולמה מנין הראויים בבנ"י להיות "יוצאי צבא בישראל" היא "לגולגלותם" ולא "לראש" (שכל)?! ומבאר ש"גולגולת" הוא הרצון. ובכדי להיות "יוצאי צבא בישראל", לכבוש את העולם, לא מספיק השכל אלא צריכים מסנ"פ – מסירת הרצון, אלא שמגיעים לזה ע"י ההתבוננות בגדלות ה' בשלימות השכל, "עשרים שנה" וכו', ואז להעלות ("שאו") את השכל שב"ראש" "לגולגלותם" (הרצון) וכו' ועי"ז יש את המסנ"פ הדרושה להיות מ"יוצאי צבא בישראל".

Synopsis
The reason the Gemara says that one may conduct business with his father’s property from twenty years old is explained in Etz Chaim: that is the age at which a person’s intellect is fully developed. Based on this, the Alter Rebbe explains the verse [at the beginning of Bamidbar], “Take the count of the Jewish people according to their ‘skulls’ from twenty years old and upwards”: Seemingly, when counting the Jews “fit to go out to the army in Israel,” why does it refer to the skull, which is just an externality, whereas the mind defines the quality of man? He explains that the “skull” represents man’s will; in order to “go out to the army in Israel,” i.e., to conquer the world, intellect alone is not enough. Rather, one must have mesiras-nefesh – surrendering his will. Just that such mesiras-nefesh is achieved through first contemplating Hashem’s greatness with mind in its fullest state – “twenty years old.” Then one can “raise” the intellect of the mind to the level of the “skull” (the will) etc., and this will bring him to the mesiras-nefesh required to “go out to the army in Israel.”
