[המשך] 3) הטענה הגדולה – מהו ה"סדר" שמישהו מתערב בעניניו הפרטיים ואומר לו שיש להניח תפילין ולשמור שבת וכו' – מה זה העסק שלו?! גם טענה זו נתבטלה לאחרונה בעת הגיוס – כ"א ידע בפשיטות שבהנהגתו הפרטית, אם הוא ימלא את הפקודות או אם הוא יהי' "ירא ורך הלבב", תלוי, לא רק גורלו או קבוצתו, אלא גורל כל עם היושב בציון! "דמי כל ישראל תלויים על צווארו"! וכאמור, כ"א ראה איך שכל טענות אלו התבטלו לפני מ"ת השנה, בבחי' "טועמי' חיים זכו". והוראות אלו בתקפם בכל עת: כבר אי אפשר לטעון שהענין דהקדמת נעשה לנשמע וקב"ע וכו' הוא בלתי-אפשרי – הוא ראה על עצמו איך שהוא הלך בקב"ע, בשמחה! וזה מה שגרם לנצחון. וזוהי הקריאה והטענה לכאו"א מישראל: ראית בעצמך שכאשר אתה יודע שזה ענין הנוגע לקדושת א"י או לקדושת החיים ומציאותו של יהודי – הנה אתה בעצמך התנהגת באופן האמור, ובשמחה!

[Continued.] (3) The yetzer hara’s major argument is, what is this business of someone mixing into my personal affairs and telling me I should put on tefillin and keep Shabbat etc. – “Mind your own business!” This argument, too, was put to rest at the time of the military call-up: it was obvious to everyone that the way you conduct yourself, and whether you are “fearful and faint-hearted,” isn’t a personal issue, but rather affects the fate of your entire unit and the fate of the entire people dwelling in Tzion! Everyone saw how all these arguments of the yetzer hara were put to rest, in the days leading up to receiving the Torah, a taste of the future Redemption. The lessons apply for all time. You can no longer argue that that’s impossible to have kabbolas ol and put “We will do” before “We will hear,” because you saw personally that when you saw that the holiness of Eretz Yisrael and the holiness of a Jewish life was at stake – you followed orders happily and without question! This is what led to the victory, and this is the call to every Jew.
