אברהם אבינו הי' "מלך" ואעפ"כ אמר לו הקב"ה [בראשון דפ' לך לך] "לך לך מארצך וגו' אל הארץ אשר אראך". ואע"פ שהדרך גורמת למיעוט פרי' ורבי' ממון ושם, מ"מ הובטח לו "ואעשך לגוי גדול (בנים) ואברכך (בממון) ואגדלה שמך". וההוראה: מי שחושב שמוטב לו לישב בביתו ובעירו במקום של כבוד שאז יוכל לפעול יותר בעניני יהדות משא"כ כאשר ילך בדרך שממעטת בפרי' ורבי' בממון ובשם וכו' – עליו לדעת שדוקא כאשר מקיים את ה"לך לך מארצך וגו'" והולך בשליחות הקב"ה, נעשה עי"ז "ואגדלה שמך" בגו"ר! וכהלימוד מהנהגת הסנהדרין, "חכמים נבונים מופלגים בחכמת התורה", שעבודתם עפ"י תורה התבטאה בזה – לחגור המתנים בחבלים ולחזור בעיירות ישראל ללמד תורה ולשמור ולהציל יהודי מאיסור מיתה [ואם הם לא התנהגו כך וכתוצאה מזה יהי' יהודי שיצטרכו לשפוט משפט מוות הרי הם אשמים בכך ונק' סנהדרין "חובלנית"!], עד לאיסור קל של ד"ס!

Hashem told him [in Rishon of Parashas Lech Lecha], “Go forth from you land and from your birthplace and from your father’s house, to the land that I will show you” – even though beforehand Avraham was settled and established and respected as a king. And although “traveling diminishes procreation, it diminishes money, and it diminishes one’s name,” nevertheless Hashem promised Avraham that “I will make you into a great nation (children) and I will bless you (with money) and I will aggrandize your name…” The lesson is this: one may think that he can accomplish more for Yiddishkeit by remaining in his current place and position of honor, whereas traveling will diminish him etc. But he should know that it is specifically when “you go forth from your land” etc., on a mission of Hashem, that “your name will be aggrandized” physically and spiritually. As we similarly learn from the Sanhedrin: although the members of the Sanhedrin were “exceptionally wise and understanding in the wisdom of the Torah” – nevertheless their job required them to go out and travel among the Jewish cities, to teach the Jewish people and prevent them from committing any sins, ranging from the most severe (if, because of their failure to educate a Jew properly, he ended up sinning and being sentenced to death, they are at fault, and they are called a “destructive Sanhedrin”) to even a minor Rabbinic requirement.
