זה עצמו שבנ"י נמצאים בגלות ובמעמד ומצב ד"אתם המעט מכל העמים" – צריך לפעול בהם רגש של תוקף וגאון, וכאשר למרות כל הקשיים והנסיונות, עומדים בתוקף ומתנהגים עפ"י התורה בחיי היום-יומיים, וזה ניכר עליהם גם כשהולכים ברחוב – זוכים עי"ז לכבוד והערצה בעיני העמים, והעיקר – להוספה בברכות ה'; הוראה מסיום שיעור תהלים היומי "תעיתי כשה אובד בקש עבדך כי מצוותיך לא שכחתי": "שה" קאי על בנ"י, וכמ"ש "שה פזורה ישראל". כאשר יהודי עושה "חשבון" משנה החולפת ומגיע למסקנא ש"תעה" לרגע אחד מדרך התורה (כתוצאה מזה גופא שנמצאים בגלות, "שה פזורה ישראל") – אין לו ליפול ברוחו, כי בודאי שהקב"ה, בהיותו "רועה נאמן", "בקש עבדך" – יבקש ויחפש את ה"שה" עד שיחזירנה למקומה! כי האמת היא שגם אז "מצותיך לא שכחתי" (ומה שלא קיים מצוה מסויימת כדרוש הוא רק מפני ש"תעה" וחשב שאינו יכול). וזה מתבטא בזה ש"אהבתי תורתך כל היום היא שיחתי", כבהתחלת השיעור: שאפי' כאשר אינו עוסק בתורה – שיחתו היא ע"ד יוקר מעלת התורה.

The very fact that the Jewish people are in exile and “the least numerous of all the peoples” must evoke in them a feeling of strength and pride, in that despite all the difficulties and challenges, they stand strong and conduct themselves according the Torah in their daily lives, and in a way that is recognizable even when they walk in the street. This brings them respect and honor in the eyes of the nations, and most importantly – it brings increased blessings from Hashem. The end of today’s daily Tehillim states, “I went astray like a lost lamb; seek Your servant, for I did not forget Your commandments.” The lamb refers to the Jewish people, “a scattered lamb is the Jewish people.” When a Jew makes an accounting of the outgoing year, and reaches the conclusion that he strayed momentarily from the path of Torah (as a result of being in exile, “scattered”) – he should not feel dejected, because it is certain that Hashem, the “Faithful Shepherd” is “seeking His servant” – looking and searching for the lamb to return it to its place. And the truth is that even when a Jew strays, “I did not forget Your commandments” (the fact that he didn’t keep a certain mitzvah properly is only because he strayed and thought he didn’t have the ability to do it). This is expressed in the fact that “I love Your Torah! All day it is my conversation, as it says at the beginning of today’s Tehillim: even when one isn’t engaged in Torah – his conversation is about the Torah’s preciousness.
