לא רק המדות שבלב אלא גם ענינים שבשכל צ"ל קשור עם מקור האמת והטוב, שזהו הקב"ה. כי כשמקורו של השכל אינו בקדושה – אין לסמוך ע"ז שהשכל כשלעצמו ינהיג אותו באופן המתאים, אלא התוצאות יכולים להיות להיות בלתי רצויים, וכדמצינו בנוגע לחכמת יון, שאף שהיא בסמיכות להיכל הקדושה, מ"מ נקראים היוונים "טמאים" "רשעים" ו"זדים", וידוע שהם היו מושחתים במדותיהם, עד שהתנהגו היפך שכל האנושי! והביאור בזה, מכיון שכל דבר שהאדם משכיל בשכלו, אף שהוא עפ"י כללי ההגיון וההשכלה וכו' אבל הוא מיוסד על "הנחות" ו"הקדמות" (מושכל ראשון) שנקבעים ע"י האדם עצמו, ולכן בהכרח שהיסוד ומקור שלהם יהי' בתורת אמת. וזהו ענינו של היו"ט חנוכה – ההצלה מחכמת יוון, שהסכנה בזה היא לא רק שלא יהיו בשלימות הראוי' אלא זוהי דרך שמביאה למעמד ומצב של "טמאים" וכו', כנ"ל. וזהו משארז"ל "אורה זו תורה": תורה אין ענינה שכל וחכמה, אלא מלשון הוראה לאדם שדרכו בחיים יהי' של חיים אמיתיים.

Synopsis
Not only the emotions in the heart, but also intellect, must be connected to the source of truth and goodness, which is Hashem. Because when the source of intellect is not in holiness, one cannot rely that the intellect itself will be an appropriate guide, as we see in the case of Greek wisdom: although it was considered close to the realm of holiness, the Greeks are nonetheless referred to as “impure,” “wicked,” and “wanton sinners,” and as we know, they were particularly corrupt and inhumane ways. The reason is because even if something accords with the principles of logic and reason etc., those principles established by man himself. Therefore, the intellect must be based in the Torah of Truth. And this is the theme of Chanukah – the Jewish people were saved from Greek wisdom, which posed the danger of becoming “impure” etc. And this is also the meaning of our Sages’ statement, “‘Light’ refers to Torah”: Torah is not just intellect and wisdom, rather, it is a hora’ah (instruction) to guide a person to true life.
