The Table Winnipeg

Zoom Lessons for the 4th Century

Listen Later

Hey folks – welcome to spring! This week it finally feels like the sunshine has some warmth, and I’ve even seen green things poking their heads up in the sheltered corners. That feels good!

A couple of news items (but not of the “daily Covid update” variety):

Kids Table (Virtual Edition) will launch this week! Here’s what Arielle has to say about what we’ll be adding to our Facebook page:

“Kids Table will up and running in a modified capacity. Each Sunday, the Kids Table team will create a post giving the kids a chance to explore, create and share with each other. Stay tuned for the first post this Sunday!”

Finances – Thank you (!!) to everyone that has continued to find ways to support our community financially. We’re not breaking records, but we’re keeping our heads above water. The “news” part is that, in response to some requests from the community, we are now set up so you can donate via e-transfer. The email address to use is <[email protected]>. And, of course, auto-debit is always available as an option, as is Paypal, which you can link to through the “Giving” tab on the website <thetablewinnipeg.com/giving/>.

This Sunday – in addition to the above mentioned Kids Table initiative, we’ll have live streamed music and Community Time at 10:45, followed by a live streamed Talky Bit. These online Talky Bits have been an ongoing technical challenge, but last week the live stream worked well, so we’re going to take our chances on that delivery method again this week. It feels like the sense of “we’re actually doing this together” is better served by the live stream, and since we keep it accessible on the Facebook page ongoing, people can look it up later if the Sunday morning time slot doesn’t work for them. Deep breath…let’s try it!

These days, Zoom meetings (or other screen based formats) have quickly become the norm. While the benefits may be obvious under the circumstances, what is becoming apparent is that there are also some downsides. Some of those downsides can have a spiritual aspect to them.  (Did you see that coming? Is that your experience?)  And, in what struck me as a further surprising twist, there are a couple of 4th century monks that might have some insight to offer for our Zoom-weary souls. If that sounds interesting, show up at the Facebook page on Sunday morning.  You can find us here <www.facebook.com/groups/236618827497208/>

I’ll (almost) see you on Sunday!

Peace,

Tim Plett
