Every page of Scripture reveals God’s glory, the sum total of His attributes and the brilliant light that appears when He reveals Himself (Lk. 2.9; Mt. 17.2; Rev. 21.23). God is consumed and in love with Himself, with His own glory (Is. 42.5, 8; Ps. 46.10; Ps. 57.5, 11), and because Scripture reveals His glory as Creator, Savior, and Sovereign, this is perfectly acceptable, justifiable, and right.
Implication: The greatest goal of every life, activity, and ministry of our church is to proclaim God’s exclusive glory (Is. 40.12-18) and His shared glory (Gal. 5.22-23). Such a community will be marked by supernatural joy (Ps. 16.11). As the Westminster Confession asserts, “Man’s chief and highest end is to glorify God, and fully to enjoy him forever.”
In human history, the only person who lived solely for God’s glory was Jesus Christ (John 7.18). He revealed God’s glory by reconciling fallen creation to God through His incarnation and accomplished work (John 1.9, 14; Col. 1.15, 19-20; 1 Cor. 15.3-4), and those who place faith in Him and repent of their sin are promised eternal life (Acts 3.19; 16.31; John 3.16). This is called the gospel – the only power through which God gives us the ability to desire and delight in His ways (Rom. 1.16; 1 Cor. 1.18; 2 Pet. 1.3-11) and obey the call to imitate Jesus (1 John 2.6; Eph. 5.2).
Implication: The gospel will be the permeating mindset through which we view all of life (cf. Col. 1.15-20) and the driving motivation for life together (1 Cor. 2.2). We will preach it to both ourselves and the lost, because we are only able to forsake personal idols as we prize Jesus’ love for us in its message (Lk. 7.37-50; 19.1-10; Rom. 5.6-8).
The Scriptures reveal the triune God’s person (Ps. 138.2), works (cf. Ps. 33.6 with John 1.3 and Col. 1.15-17), and redemptive plan (Luke 24.27) to humanity. We believe the Bible is infallible (Ps. 19.7), inerrant (Prov. 30.5), inspired (2 Pet. 1.21), and authoritative (2 Tim. 3.16-17).
Implication: Not only is everything we do responsibly based upon the immutable wisdom of Scripture (I Tim. 3.15d), we are committed as a congregation to being people of the Book in our gathered worship (1 Tim. 4.13; Col. 3.16) and in our personal/community life (Rom. 15.4; 2 Tim. 3.16-17).
Mission: To proclaim God’s glory in the gospel of Jesus Christ through a Spirit-empowered community.
