Let me take you back to the moment I dropped off my firstborn, Aaliyah, at her college dorm. I held it together (barely) through the hugging, decorating, and 50,000 photos… but as soon as I got into the car, I lost it. Like full-on, ugly cry all the way home. Because I knew. I knew that moment was a line in the sand—before and after.
Fast forward to now, and the plot twist? I’m back in the emotional trenches. Aaliyah is graduating college. Aubrey is graduating high school and leaving the state. And Brooklyn, my little Monkey Feet, will be the last one left at home. So this Mother’s Day, I sat down with all three of my girls for a no-filter, full-feels conversation about what it’s like to grow up, leave home, and navigate all the messy in-betweens.
If you’re a mom who’s ever cried in a Target parking lot because your kid won’t need you to pack their lunch anymore—this one’s for you.
When “Home” Isn’t a Place, It’s Your PeopleAaliyah said it best—“Home isn’t a place anymore, it’s the people you surround yourself with.” Sure, she was excited to be on her own, to have her freedom. But what surprised her was how quickly the homesickness set in. “I can’t just go into your room after a nightmare anymore. I had to figure it all out by myself.”
And she did—eventually. But not without growing pains.
“One thing I didn’t know how to do? Handle conflict on my own. Mom, you were always my backup plan.”
— Aaliyah Cisneros
Oof. Right in the mom-heart.
It hit me that maybe I stepped in too often. Maybe I was so set on protecting her that I didn’t give her space to fail forward. But that’s what this season is all about, isn’t it? The terrifying trust fall of motherhood.
The Silent Pressures We Don’t Talk AboutHere’s what I didn’t expect: my girls carry their own invisible weights—trying not to disappoint us, trying to live up to their own impossible standards.
Aaliyah confessed, “I don’t want to let you down. I don’t want to feel like I didn’t become who I was supposed to be.”
And here’s the twist: I feel the exact same way about them.
“We don’t want to fail you. We want to make sure we taught you everything.”
— Me (a mom just trying her best)
This whole “launching your kid into the world” thing is beautiful, brutal work. And spoiler alert: nobody has it figured out.
Real Talk: What Daughters Wish Moms KnewFrom fearing the freshman 15 to learning how to use a washing machine (yes, Aubrey, I’m looking at you), this next chapter has all the uncertainty of a Netflix drama.
But what stood out most in our conversation? The emotional honesty.
Brooklyn, my youngest, is watching her sisters pack and plan and push forward—and she’s quietly grieving the loss of the house as she’s always known it.
“It makes me want to cry. You guys have been there my whole life. I don’t know what I’m going to do without you.”
— Brooklyn, aka Monkey Feet
Yeah, cue the waterworks.
So What Can We Actually Do?Whether your daughter is walking across the graduation stage or just walking into adolescence, here’s what I’ve learned:
And to the dads out there? Don’t brush off your wife’s tears. Even if she knows this is what’s supposed to happen, it still stings. As my husband put it:
“The worst thing I could do is hold them back from experiencing the world. But I can be there when they need to come home.”
— My incredibly wise husband
To every mama navigating this bittersweet season—you’re not alone. It’s okay to cry in the car. It’s okay to wonder if you got it all right. And it’s definitely okay to wish they’d come home every weekend forever.
Just remember: your love gave them wings. And that means you did your job.
I hope you had a Happy Mother’s Day from my crazy, loud, beautifully imperfect family to yours.

Let’s get one thing straight: If you’re the one managing the calendar, making all the decisions, planning every date night, and still motivating your husband to help with the kids—you’re not crazy, you’re exhausted. And you’re not alone.
In this eye-opening episode of the Empowered and Unapologetic Podcast, I sat down with relationship coach and best-selling author Dr. Ray Doktor, Psy.D., to dive deep into the very real struggle so many high-achieving women face in their relationships: Why are you always the one leading—and what can you do about it?
This wasn’t some surface-level chat. Dr. Ray and I went in. From generational conditioning to masculine energy and emotional safety, we unraveled what’s really going on when your partner doesn’t show up—and what it takes to shift the dynamic.
Here’s what you need to know.
When He Won’t Lead—It’s Not Always About YouIf you’re feeling more like your husband’s life coach than his partner, Dr. Ray says you’re likely experiencing the result of generational patterns and a culture that raised men to be taken care of instead of held accountable.
Many modern men—especially Millennials and younger Gen Xers—were raised by well-meaning, overprotective mothers who made life way too comfortable. These men didn’t learn to take initiative or develop emotional grit. And unless they’ve done real inner work or been challenged by a strong mentor, they never had to.
“If he’s had women taking care of him his whole life, why would he change?” – Dr. Ray Doktor
So if you’re constantly filling in the gaps—emotionally, mentally, financially—it’s not that he’s incapable. It’s that you’ve become the parent in the relationship… and nobody wants to sleep with their parent.
Did You Fall in Love with His Potential? This one’s gonna sting a little.
Dr. Ray says many women fall into a cycle of loving a man’s potential—who he could be, who he says he wants to become—rather than who he actually is.
Let me ask you this:
Here’s the hard truth: If he doesn’t see the value in changing, he won’t.
And you can’t make someone change just because you wish they would.
So What Can You Actually Do?Here’s the good news: You’re not powerless. You’re not doomed. But you do have to get honest with yourself.
Write your answers down. Clarity is power.
When you’re always the one making decisions, holding the household together, and emotionally checking the boxes, you’re living in your masculine energy 24/7.
And what does that do?
It kills polarity. It leaves your partner passive, and it leaves you feeling resentful and disconnected.
As Dr. Ray puts it:
“If your man finally does something right and you criticize how he did it, you’re training him not to try again.”
Oof.
Instead, start with what he did well, then invite the improvement:
“Thank you for mowing the lawn—could you just tuck the mower back into the shed next time so the kids don’t trip over it?”
When Is It Time to Walk Away?
If you’ve tried everything—therapy, coaching, open-hearted conversations—and he’s still not showing up, it might be time to accept the hardest truth of all:
He’s not going to.
Here are a few signs it may be time to leave:
“At some point, the biggest shift you can make is realizing you’ve already been doing it alone.” – Veronica Cisneros
Rebuilding Trust Starts With YouDr. Ray reminds us that emotional safety doesn’t begin with your partner—it begins with you.
You have to trust that:
Only from that grounded place can you create real change, whether it’s with him… or without him.
The First Step to Shifting the DynamicIf you’re tired of carrying the emotional weight of your marriage, try this today:
Journal these three prompts:
Then ask yourself: What’s one action I can take today to reclaim my power?

The post EU 272: “Why Won’t He Step Up?” What High-Achieving Women Need to Know About Emotionally Unavailable Partners appeared first on Empowered and Unapologetic.
Listen on Apple. Listen on Spotify. Listen on YouTube.
So let’s be real—if you’re a high-achieving woman juggling a business, a family, a never-ending to-do list, and also waking up at 3 a.m. wondering why the hell you’re sweating through your sheets—this episode is for you.
On the latest episode of the Empowered and Unapologetic podcast, I sat down with Dr. Megan Lyons—Harvard grad, double board-certified in clinical and holistic nutrition, and founder of the Lyons Share Wellness. She’s helped thousands of women navigate the wild ride of menopause and perimenopause with simple, sustainable strategies that actually work.
And best of all? She’s not here to shame you, overwhelm you, or sell you on some $500 superfood dust. Nope. Dr. Megan’s approach is grounded, tested, and totally doable—even if you barely have time to pee between meetings.
Let’s break it down.
You Might Be in Perimenopause If…Let’s start here because the guessing game is real.
Perimenopause is the transition period before menopause and it can last anywhere from 3 to 10 years. Yep—years. And no, your OB telling you “you’re not there yet” based on a single blood test isn’t the whole story.
Here are a few signs you might be entering the perimenopause zone:
Even if bloodwork doesn’t confirm it yet, your body knows. So tune in.
The Nutrition Fix: Where Hormonal Harmony BeginsNow, let’s talk about the good stuff—how you can use food to feel better today.
Dr. Megan breaks it into a few essentials:
1. More Fiber (Like, Way More)Fiber isn’t just for digestion—it actually flushes out excess estrogen. That bloating, moodiness, and constipation? Fiber can help. Think leafy greens, chia seeds, berries, and yes—even a little dark chocolate.
2. Prioritize Blood Sugar BalanceIf you’re riding the roller coaster of energy crashes and sugar cravings, your blood sugar is probably out of whack. Keeping your meals balanced with protein, fiber, and healthy fats helps stabilize your mood and energy—and yes, your hormones.
3. Ditch the Shame, Not the ChocolateDr. Megan’s approach isn’t about cutting everything you love. It’s about building a solid foundation—then sprinkling in your wine, your fries, or your chips in a way that doesn’t send your system spiraling.
What Should You Actually Eat?You asked, we begged, and Dr. Megan delivered. Here’s what a hormone-friendly day on a plate looks like:
BreakfastAnd if you must grab that candy? Do 30 seconds of movement first—jumping jacks, stairs, whatever. Give your body a chance to reset.
Supplements That Can HelpIf you’re looking for an extra boost (but not ready to dive into full-on bioidentical hormone therapy), here are a few of Dr. Megan’s favorites:
Again, testing is ideal. But these are safe starting points for many women.
One Fist at a TimeFeeling overwhelmed? Here’s your super simple place to start:
Look at your fist. That’s one serving of fruits or veggies.
Most women only eat 1–2 of those a day. Your goal? Add just one more.
That’s it. No insane cleanse. No crash diet. Just one more fistful of greens, berries, or roasted sweet potatoes.
Dr. Megan calls this the linchpin habit—that one shift that leads to others. Nail this, and you’ll naturally start sleeping better, eating better, and feeling like your brain belongs to you again.
What Surprised Her Most About MenopauseDr. Megan shared something powerful: most women think they’re alone in this.
They feel embarrassed to talk about libido changes, mood swings, or spotting that won’t quit. But the truth? You are so not alone.
If you’re in a carpool line, at work, or out with friends—someone else near you is going through the exact same thing.
This is normal. You are not broken. And you are definitely not the only one forgetting the name of everyday objects.
Her Message to YouThere’s no magic pill. There’s no perfect diet. There’s just your body—asking you to listen.
And if you do?
You can absolutely move through menopause with strength, stability, and yes—joy.
“This is the time when your body needs more love, not more bashing.” – Dr. Megan Lyons
Ready to Work With Her?Dr. Megan offers one-on-one coaching through her company, Lyons Share Wellness. Whether you work with her or someone on her team, the approach is the same: functional lab testing (if you want it), personalized support, and small changes over time that actually stick.
Start with one win. One serving. One new belief.
And if you’re wondering what your first step is? Take her “Is This Normal?” quiz at thelionsshare.org and get the clarity you need to feel empowered—not lost—in this new chapter.
You’ve got this.
And with the right knowledge, the right food, and the right support—you won’t just survive menopause. You’ll thrive through it.

And remember, your health is your superpower. Fuel it like you believe it.

Have you ever stood in line at Starbucks debating whether or not to treat yourself to that iced vanilla oat milk latte, only to talk yourself out of it and head home with a lukewarm can of sparkling water? Yeah, same. And it’s not just coffee—it’s the haircut you reschedule, the help you don’t hire, the outfit you put back on the rack. Because you’re a responsible woman, right? A high-achieving, sacrifice-it-all-for-the-family kind of woman.
But today’s episode of the Empowered and Unapologetic podcast flipped that entire belief system on its head.
I sat down with Janine Mix—a Christian entrepreneur, author, speaker, and host of the Permission to Prosper podcast. This woman went from being $120,000 in debt (yes, you read that right) to becoming a multimillionaire by the age of 33. And spoiler alert: she didn’t get there by skipping coffee. She got there by healing her relationship with money.
Let’s talk about it.
“Buy the Damn Coffee” is NOT RecklessFirst things first, Janine is not out here encouraging you to max out your credit cards. “Buy the damn coffee” is about breaking free from the shame-based money mindset that keeps women small. It’s not about frivolous spending. It’s about recognizing that $5 coffee isn’t why you’re not building wealth.
The real issue? It’s what’s in your mind, not what’s in your wallet.
So many of us carry invisible rules around money—rules passed down through generations. Rules like:
Sound familiar?
Janine breaks it down beautifully: These are called money influencers, and there are three kinds:
For Janine, one of those key moments was when her mom took her shopping and bought her all the girly clothes she had never been allowed to wear. But as they pulled up to the house, her mom said, “Wait until your dad is asleep to bring this in.”
That moment planted a seed of guilt. Of shame. Of secrecy. And that seed grew.
The Money Stories We Carry (And Pass Down)My own money story? Whew. I grew up knowing, not just hearing, that we didn’t have enough. My dad was an addict. If there was money, it was hidden—or spent on things that didn’t serve our family. There was never a sense of safety, of abundance. Just survival.
And now as a mom of three girls, I catch myself overcompensating. I don’t want them to feel the way I felt. So what do I do? I cave. I hand over the debit card. I say yes to things they haven’t earned, simply because I don’t want them to feel lack.
Sound familiar?
But here’s the truth Janine reminded me of: giving your kids everything doesn’t equal abundance. Giving them tools—financial literacy, confidence, vision—that’s how you build generational wealth.
It’s Not Too Late to Change Your Money MindsetYou don’t need to be perfect. You don’t need to become a CPA overnight. But you do need to stop avoiding your money. Because money, Janine says, is a magnifier. It’s not going to make you good or bad—it’s going to amplify whatever’s already inside.
And if you’re living with guilt, shame, and anxiety around money? That’s what gets amplified.
Janine shared her MIX Shift Framework to start flipping the script:
Simple? Yes. Powerful? Absolutely.
Start Small. Start Now.Janine isn’t here to give you a 47-step budget template that overwhelms you. She’s here to equip you.
And the first tool she gives? Money Moves Monday. Block out an hour every Monday to look at your numbers, check your accounts, read a money article, or review your budget. Treat it like a money date. Light a candle. Play music. Make it enjoyable. Make it a habit.
Want to go deeper? Janine created a free 5-Step Money Planner you can grab at janinemix.com/unapologetic. It’ll help you organize your personal and business finances, set real goals, track your debt, and create an empowering money plan that actually aligns with your vision.
And that’s the kicker—vision.
Do you know what you want? Do you know why you’re hustling? Because if you don’t, you’ll keep chasing money without ever feeling satisfied. And eventually, you’ll burn out.
Janine knew she wanted to retire early, travel, and give back. That vision kept her grounded, focused, and fueled her transformation from broke in LA to multimillionaire real estate investor.
Your TurnSo what’s your story with money? What invisible rules are running your life? What limiting beliefs are you unknowingly passing down to your kids?
It’s time to get clear. It’s time to take back your power.
Buy the damn coffee. Block the time for Money Moves Monday. Read the book. Write the vision.
You are worthy of wealth. You are capable of managing your money. And you are not alone on this journey.
Let’s stop apologizing for wanting more—and start building it, unapologetically.

Let’s just get straight to it: You’re exhausted. You’re doing everything—raising the kids, running the business, holding the emotional weight of your marriage—and still being told you need to “lighten up.” You’re tired of compromising yourself and your dreams just to protect your husband’s ego. You’re wondering, “When the hell is he going to step up?”
If that’s you, you’re not alone. And this episode with Dr. Ray Doktor is one of those conversations that doesn’t just call things out—it calls you in.
Dr. Ray is a clinical psychologist and relationship coach with over 28 years of experience. He’s also not afraid to go there—to name the real reasons intimacy is dying in relationships and what’s really keeping high-achieving women stuck in a cycle of resentment, control, and burnout.
So let’s break it down.
The Hidden Beliefs That Are Sabotaging Your RelationshipOne of the most powerful moments in our conversation was when Dr. Ray pointed out that sometimes, we’re trying to get a cat to bark. Meaning: we’re asking our partners to be someone they’re not—and then resenting them for not changing.
Here are a few of the beliefs he said are quietly wreaking havoc on marriages:
Sound familiar?
Here’s the truth: those beliefs aren’t just about your partner. They’re about control. They’re about fear. And most importantly, they’re about trust—trust in yourself, in your partner, and in life.
And I get it. I’ve been there.
There was a time in my marriage where I was so wrapped up in trying to hold it all together, I didn’t realize I was actually pushing my husband away. I criticized, I micromanaged, and then I blamed him when he shut down.
Spoiler alert: I was part of the problem.
Why Masculine Energy Isn’t the Enemy (But Overuse Is)High-achieving women are pros at stepping into masculine energy—structure, direction, productivity. But when that’s your default, it can burn you out and disconnect you from your partner. Especially if your husband is stuck in passive or avoidant behavior (and let’s be honest, a lot of men are these days).
Dr. Ray explained that many men were raised by single mothers or in overly nurtured environments. They’ve never been required to step up—because someone else always did it for them. And when they enter a relationship with a woman who already has her foot on the gas, they just stay in the passenger seat.
Here’s the hard truth: if we keep enabling that dynamic, they won’t change. Why would they? They’re still getting the benefits—sex, comfort, partnership—without having to grow.
So What Can You Actually Do?Let’s be real. You’re not trying to raise a man. And you definitely don’t want to be the default parent and the relationship manager.
So what’s the move?
Dr. Ray says it starts with dropping the blame—and picking up responsibility for your own healing.
Yeah, that one hit me too.
I shared a story about a damn fire alarm. I had been holding on to resentment for weeks because my husband didn’t change the battery. I was ready to light him up on a podcast episode… only to find out he had changed it. He just didn’t do it the way I would have.
He looked me in the eye and said, “Your emergency doesn’t constitute an emergency on my part.”
Oof.
At first, I was livid. But he was right. And that moment forced me to confront the way I was attaching security to control—and how I’d let fear run the show.
Why “Celebrating Him” Isn’t About Stroking His EgoNow, I can already hear you: “Why the hell do I need to celebrate him for doing the bare minimum?”
I get it. I get it.
But Dr. Ray reframed this in a way that made me stop in my tracks. He said:
“Celebration isn’t about complimenting him. It’s about connecting to yourself. It’s saying, ‘It made me feel feminine and provided for when you did that.’” – Dr. Ray Doktor
It’s not about stroking his ego. It’s about honoring your experience and showing him how to love you well.
But also? If he’s really not stepping up—if you’ve tried healthy communication, you’ve done the work, and he’s still not growing—then it might be time to ask the hard question: Is this relationship aligned with who I am now?
Don’t Personalize the InactionOne of the best takeaways from this episode was simple, but powerful:
Stop personalizing his behavior.
Just because he didn’t load the dishwasher right doesn’t mean he doesn’t love you. Just because he didn’t respond how you hoped doesn’t mean he’s trying to sabotage you.
We create stories in our heads—stories that trigger old wounds and make us feel abandoned or unsafe. And before we know it, we’re fighting ghosts from our past instead of dealing with the present moment.

Listen on Apple. Listen on Spotify. Listen on YouTube.
Let’s face it—most of us are doing life on autopilot. We’re checking off boxes, meeting expectations, and maybe even looking pretty successful from the outside. But inside? We know there’s more. More purpose. More impact. More us.
So what’s stopping us?
According to this week’s podcast guest, Robb Braun, it’s not about talent or luck. It’s about honesty. Self-honesty. The kind that requires you to look in the mirror and ask, am I really showing up as my best self? And more importantly: do I even know who that is?
Robb is a coach, speaker, author, and someone who has lived through heartbreak and come out with a mission: helping people live heroic lives—not perfect ones, but purposeful ones.
“Living heroically is consciously choosing to be the better version of myself. And that starts with getting really honest.” – Robb Braun
Robb’s definition of a heroic life isn’t about running into burning buildings or climbing Everest. It’s about everyday courage. It’s about being the kind of person who keeps their promises—to themselves.
That means showing up even when no one’s watching. Asking the hard questions. Being radically honest about how we’re falling short—and doing something about it.
And let’s be clear: this is not about perfection. It’s about progress. It’s about deciding, I’m going to show up today—not because I feel like it, but because I made a promise to myself.
“Most of us won’t break a promise to someone else. But we’ll break promises to ourselves every damn day.” – Robb Braun
Robb also called out a hard truth: many of us are afraid of our own greatness. It’s safer to coast, to blend in, to stay in our comfort zone. But living heroically means becoming the one—the person who chooses to lead, even when it’s uncomfortable.
The “If This, Then That” Strategy: How to Actually Keep Your PromisesLook, we all want to do the hard things. But let’s be honest—comfort wins a lot.
“If I leave it to decision-making, comfort will always win. That’s why I use algorithms. If this, then that.” – Robb Braun
Robb’s secret to consistency? Take decision-making out of the equation. He builds protocols into his day so there’s no room for negotiating with comfort.
He’s been doing this for 357 straight days. And no, it’s not about willpower. It’s about systems.
“This isn’t discipline. This is strategy. I built my routine so I don’t have to decide. I just do.” – Robb Braun
He even added movement into his schedule with hourly alarms—reminders to stand up, stretch, do a few pushups, move. Small actions that keep him aligned with who he wants to become.
This approach isn’t just for ultra-motivated people. It’s for all of us who want to close the gap between who we are and who we’re capable of being.
Turning Loss into Legacy—and Loving Yourself Through the ProcessRobb isn’t just sharing theories. He’s lived through loss—the kind that levels you. The kind that makes you question everything.
“Losing my son changed me. I had to choose: stay stuck in anger and pain, or use it to live fully.” – Robb Braun
He didn’t sugarcoat it. He was honest about the darkness, the questions, and the slow climb out of grief. But what stood out most was this: he didn’t let loss define him. He let it refine him.
“I chose to stop being afraid. I wanted my son to be proud of the man I became—not the one I almost became.” – Robb Braun
This isn’t just inspiring—it’s a roadmap. Robb teaches that pain doesn’t disqualify us from greatness. In fact, it can be the very thing that qualifies us.
His message to women who feel stuck in failure or unfulfilled potential?
“It’s not a character flaw. It’s a strategy flaw. You’re not broken—you just need a new way.” – Robb Braun
Yes, you’ve tried before. And yes, you may have failed. But Robb says that in itself is heroic. You’ve stayed in the game. And now it’s time to find the strategies that work for you.
Be the OneRobb reminded me—and now I’m reminding you—that the gap between who you are and who you could be? It’s closable. Not through huge leaps, but tiny steps. Consistent steps.
So here’s your invitation:
Be brave enough to get honest. Be bold enough to set up systems that make success inevitable. And be the one—the one who leads, the one who feels deeply, the one who shows up heroically.
You don’t need permission.
You don’t need perfection.
You just need to start.
“You’re not failing. You just haven’t found the right strategy yet. That’s all.” – Robb Braun
And if you’re looking for a starting point, Robb recommends checking out the Heroic app for 30 days, free of charge. He also has local workshops coming soon to help you create your own personal heroic blueprint.
Because the world doesn’t need perfect people.
It needs people who are willing to show up—fully, authentically, and on purpose.
Let’s go.

Let’s be real. Building a business while raising babies isn’t for the faint of heart. You’re knee-deep in diapers and deadlines, trying to figure out if you’re crushing it—or just slowly losing it.
Sound familiar?
That’s exactly why I had to bring on Maddy Fero, founder of Little Rad Things, to the Empowered and Unapologetic Podcast. She’s the ultimate example of what happens when creativity meets chaos in the best possible way. Maddy went from NASCAR spokesmodel to sewing novice to powerhouse entrepreneur with a booming kids’ brand built on sustainability, bold design, and a whole lotta heart.
And the best part? She’s done it all while staying true to herself—and her family.
“I was literally sewing clothes at my kitchen table during naptime. I didn’t see anything I liked in stores, so I thought, why not make it?” – Maddy Fero
From Thread to Thrive: Starting a Business While Figuring Out MotherhoodMaddy started sewing in 2020 as a creative escape—and it took off. Like, viral on Instagram with college friends sliding into her DMs kind of takeoff.
But teaching herself to sew and launching a brand was just the beginning. When she officially formed an LLC in 2021, she was pregnant with her second son and ready to do both: grow a business and work full-time.
Spoiler alert: it didn’t go as planned.
“I was two weeks into a new job and I just quit. I knew I couldn’t mentally handle both. My husband said, ‘Go for it. We’ll figure it out.’” – Maddy Fero
That leap took guts—and a lot of grace. Maddy was brutally honest about the emotional rollercoaster of entrepreneurship, admitting there were moments she felt lost in it all.
“You’re doing so much as a mom and a business owner. And when you finally get time for yourself, you usually feel guilty. I had to relearn how to do things that brought me joy.” – Maddy Fero
Her secret? Daily walks, gym time, and just being still—whether that’s 20 minutes in the tub or sipping coffee solo before the house wakes up.
Business, Marriage & Boundaries: How Maddy Does It All (Without Doing It All)While juggling two young boys and a rapidly growing business, Maddy also had to navigate what that meant for her marriage—and her sense of self.
“I’m super lucky—my husband is my rock. But we still have moments where he’s like, ‘Put your phone down.’ It never turns off when you run your own business.” – Maddy Fero
And if you’ve ever had a partner not understand why you’re up at midnight tweaking a product page or answering DMs—same, girl.
Maddy shared a story about nearly spiraling during a family vacation when a business credit card hit its hidden limit.
“I panicked. I thought the world was ending. My husband gave me 30 minutes to cry it out, then said, ‘We’re fine. The product’s coming. Take a breath and strategize.’” – Maddy Fero
And yes, she works weird hours and doesn’t always get eight hours of sleep. But time-blocking is her saving grace—and one of the systems that keeps the wheels turning.
“I block my days like a puzzle. Mornings with my kids, work hours are sacred, and nights I usually work again after bedtime. It’s not perfect, but it works.” – Maddy Fero
Staying Rad in a Noisy MarketSo how does she keep Little Rad Things rad when the kids apparel market is loud and fast?
Simple: she stays in her lane.
“I don’t follow trends. I don’t chase what other brands are doing. I keep my head down and stay rooted in my values.” – Maddy Fero
Those values? Sustainability, ethical sourcing, and a full shift to American-made production by 2025—even if it means higher costs and explaining her prices to the occasional TikTok troll.
“Yes, you could buy something cheaper at Shein or Target. But what you’re paying for with us is better quality, safer materials, and products made with purpose and care.” – Maddy Fero
And speaking of purpose—her community is her why. Maddy doesn’t call them customers. She calls them family. One mom has five kids—and all five wear Little Rad Things. If that’s not brand loyalty, I don’t know what is.
“It’s emotional for me. The fact that someone chooses to dress their child in something I made? It’s so personal. It means everything.” – Maddy Fero
So what’s next? Amazon, baby. Maddy’s expanding into registry-ready baby gear just in time for the holidays, and she’s just getting started.
Celebrate the Win, AlreadyI told Maddy (and now I’m telling you): Schedule the celebration. Don’t wait for the “next big thing” to throw yourself a little confetti.
Because when you build something from scratch—something that brings joy, creates jobs, and gives you purpose—you deserve that moment.
“I’ve accomplished things I once dreamed of. But I don’t stop and say, ‘Go me.’ I need to get better at that.” – Maddy Fero
So whether you’re sewing onesies during naptime or launching your own version of Little Rad Things, remember this: you can do it scared, you can do it imperfectly, and you can do it your way.
And when you do? Don’t forget to clap for yourself. You’ve earned it.
Useful links:Maddy Fero is the founder and creative force behind Little Rad Things, a premium kids clothing brand inspired by motorsports and built on bold style, sustainability, and heart. A former NASCAR spokesmodel turned mompreneur, Maddy taught herself to sew during early motherhood and transformed a creative passion into a fast-growing business. With two rad boys by her side, she’s on a mission to raise good humans, create cool clothes, and build a brand that’s 100% American-made by 2025. Maddy is passionate about faith, family, and helping fellow moms embrace both motherhood and entrepreneurship unapologetically.

When I say Chrissy Grigoropoulos is a powerhouse, I mean it. This woman is an attorney, real estate broker, CEO of multiple businesses, and now a published author. I had the absolute pleasure of interviewing Chrissy on the Empowered and Unapologetic podcast, and y’all—I left that conversation fired up. Chrissy doesn’t just drop gems, she drops truth bombs.
She’s completely self-made, hustling her way from immigrant roots to the top of the professional food chain. Chrissy graduated high school at 16, college at 19, and law school by 25. Did she miss out on parties? Yup. Did she gain a thriving law firm and an empire? Hell yes.
“There’s no magic wand,” she said. “I wish.”
Chrissy’s success is no accident. It’s grit, late nights, sacrifice, and saying no to the distractions that so many of us cave into. She’s also very real about the struggle. From skipping parties to choosing her career over dating, Chrissy is honest about the cost of ambition—and she’s unapologetic about it.
“You’ll always find an excuse if you need one as to why you’re not succeeding.”
—Chrissy Grigoropoulos
Let’s talk about what really hit me: Chrissy’s approach to starting businesses. She calls them “baby businesses,” and girl, if that doesn’t hit right in the mom-entrepreneur heart, I don’t know what does.
She didn’t wait for a degree to define her worth. She found value in skills. Like organizing, cooking, or even making charcuterie boards. “You don’t need capital,” she said. “You need fire inside of you.”
Preach, lady shark.
Chrissy shared that real success is built over time. It’s about consistency, strategy, and reminding yourself why you started in the first place. She didn’t make any real money in her law firm until five years in. Five years! Can we normalize talking about the slow burn of building something worthwhile?
“The work that you put in today, it’s not going to pay you tomorrow. It’s going to pay you in six months, a year, two years, five years.”
—Chrissy Grigoropoulos
So, for my ladies feeling discouraged because you’re not “there” yet, stop scrolling through highlight reels on Instagram and thinking everyone else has it figured out. They don’t. Chrissy reminds us that no one has it together, not really.
“There’s no such thing as mastering any of that. We’re all just trying.”
—Chrissy Grigoropoulos
Let’s get really real. As high-achieving women, many of us struggle to balance our roles as wives, mothers, and business owners. Chrissy gets it. She’s raising two (soon to be three!) kids while running multiple businesses—and she doesn’t sugarcoat the chaos.
She shared how communication in her marriage has been one of her biggest learning curves. Like many of us, she assumed her husband should “just know” how she feels. Spoiler alert: that never works. We laughed, we commiserated, and we acknowledged the reality—running a business while parenting toddlers is basically running two startups at the same time.
Chrissy is also fiercely protective of her time. She swears by to-do lists, even texts herself notes when her brain won’t shut off. And she’s learned to separate what feels urgent from what actually matters. That includes unplugging for short breaks—even if it’s just a few days—to avoid burnout.
So if you’re feeling like you’re running on empty, Chrissy’s advice is to stop aiming for perfect. Instead, focus on being present and communicating openly. Especially with your partner.
And the most important message? Forget what people think.
Whether it’s judgment about your career, your parenting, or the car you drive—if they’re not paying your bills or hugging your babies, their opinions don’t matter.
Chrissy’s book, Lady Shark: How to Become a Millionaire in Your 30s, is out now and packed with tips, workbooks, and mindset shifts to help you go from surviving to slaying. Grab your copy on Amazon, and connect with her @ChrissyGOfficial on Instagram. Trust me, this is one woman you want in your corner.
And to all my ladies listening—if you’ve been waiting for a sign, this is it. Stop sitting on your potential. You don’t need permission. Just ask yourself: how bad do you want it?
Because guess what?
You’re not too late.
You’re not too old.
You’re just getting started.
Chrissy Grigoropoulos, Esq. is the founding attorney of The Grigoropoulos Law Group, PLLC, a top New York firm specializing in personal injury, workers’ compensation, criminal defense, and per diem legal services. Admitted to practice in both state and federal courts, Chrissy is known for her “shark approach” to law—tenacious, strategic, and relentless in securing justice for her clients.
With a career that began at just 16 years old and spans high-profile criminal cases, complex civil litigation, and third-party claims, Chrissy brings unmatched expertise to every courtroom she enters. She’s also a published author, fluent in Greek and Spanish, and a go-to advocate for injured workers and underserved communities.
Whether she’s in trial, managing her firm, or mentoring future attorneys, Chrissy continues to break barriers and redefine what it means to be a modern legal powerhouse.

We get it. You’re juggling work, family, that never-ending pile of laundry, and maybe—just maybe—trying to squeeze in a self-care moment (that usually gets sacrificed for something “more important”). But here’s the deal: If you keep running yourself into the ground, you won’t be able to keep up with the life you’re working so hard to build.
Dr. Lahana Vigliano, a functional medicine expert, is here to shake things up and tell us the truth about what our bodies have been screaming at us. From gut health to stress, metabolism, and why your kids are watching your every move, she breaks down exactly why taking care of yourself isn’t selfish—it’s a necessity.
The Red Flags You’ve Been Ignoring (And Explaining Away)If you’ve ever brushed off a symptom with “I’m just tired because I’m a mom,” congratulations—you’re part of the club. But according to Dr. Lahana, we need to stop normalizing the very things that are warning signs our bodies are struggling.
Migraines, bloating, brain fog, stubborn weight, painful periods, irregular cycles, anxiety, and even eye twitches? Yeah, none of that is normal.
“The things that are normal are not normal. They’re the body speaking to you, and we see them start so subtly.” – Dr. Lahana Vigliano
Your body isn’t just giving you minor inconveniences—it’s waving big, red flags, trying to get your attention. And if you ignore them long enough, they won’t just be minor symptoms anymore.
What’s the biggest overlooked sign? Stress. Your body can’t tell the difference between running from a bear and being overwhelmed with emails, kids’ activities, and a never-ending to-do list. Either way, it thinks you’re in danger—and that can throw everything off, including your hormones, digestion, and even metabolism.
Self-Care Isn’t Selfish—It’s SurvivalA lot of moms feel guilty for taking time for themselves. But Dr. Lahana had a major realization when her mom was diagnosed with kidney disease.
“If my mom would have just taken care of herself all those years ago, she wouldn’t be putting the burden of worry and anxiety on me now.” – Dr. Lahana Vigliano
That hit hard, right? The way you care for yourself today directly impacts the future of your family. If you’re constantly burning out, pushing through exhaustion, and ignoring your body’s needs, you’re setting the stage for long-term health issues—not just for you, but for the people who love you.
And let’s not forget: Your kids are watching. More is caught than taught. If they see you putting yourself last, they’ll learn that’s what they should do too. And we all know that’s not what we want for them.
Three Simple Health Shifts You Can Start TodaySo where do you even begin when it feels like everything needs fixing? Dr. Lahana has some quick wins that any busy mom can start right now.
1. Check Your Plate: Can You Kill It or Grow It?Forget calorie counting. Instead, look at your meals and ask: Can I grow this? Can I kill this? If the answer is yes, you’re on the right track.
Whole foods—veggies, meats, nuts, seeds—should take up most of your plate. If it’s ultra-processed and came from a factory, it’s probably not doing your body any favors.
Manage Stress Like It’s a Doctor’s AppointmentReducing stress doesn’t have to mean adding another thing to your to-do list. Instead, schedule fun the same way you’d schedule a meeting.
“When’s the last time you did something just for fun? Most people can’t even remember. That’s wild.” – Dr. Lahana Vigliano
Whether it’s a solo dance party, reading something not work-related, or just getting outside for some fresh air—find joy. Your body (and mind) will thank you.
Give Caffeine and Alcohol a BreakBefore you panic—this isn’t forever. But if you’re feeling sluggish, anxious, or just off, taking a break from caffeine or alcohol can help reset your system. Swap coffee for matcha (which has calming L-theanine) and try non-alcoholic alternatives for a while. You might be surprised at how much better you feel.
Final Thoughts: Slow Down to Speed UpYour health isn’t just about living longer—it’s about living better. If you’re constantly running on fumes, ignoring symptoms, and putting everyone else first, you’re not just making it harder for yourself—you’re setting the stage for long-term health problems.
It’s time to reframe self-care. It’s not indulgent, and it’s not selfish—it’s essential.
So, take a breath, check your plate, and schedule something fun. Your future self (and your family) will thank you for it.

We, the high-achieving women of the world, have conquered boardrooms, businesses, and PTA meetings like the absolute bosses we are. We juggle careers, kids, relationships, and a million other responsibilities with finesse. And yet—somehow—our health and weight always seem to be the thing that eludes us. If that sounds like you, then buckle up, because today we’re diving deep into why this happens and what we can do about it with the help of Angelica Ventrice, a seven-figure high-performance health and business mentor and the founder of The Aligned Method.
Let’s get real about why we struggle, what’s keeping us stuck, and the steps we need to take to finally feel as powerful in our bodies as we do in every other aspect of our lives.
The High-Achieving Woman’s Struggle With Health (A.K.A. Why We Can’t Seem to Get It Together)You know the drill. We dominate in business, handle our families like pros, and keep our calendars stacked, but when it comes to taking care of ourselves? Ha. That gets put on the back burner faster than our untouched gym memberships.
Angelica puts it bluntly:
“High-achieving women just push, push, push, living in that masculine energy. We put all our energy into our careers, and we lose touch with ourselves.”
Sound familiar? We’re so laser-focused on success that we convince ourselves our weight isn’t that bad. And sure, maybe our jeans don’t button like they used to, but we tell ourselves, I’m fine.
Except fine isn’t cutting it. As Angelica points out, so many of us feel bloated, exhausted, and completely out of sync with our bodies. And here’s the kicker: That’s NOT normal. We just got used to it.
“Your body is your business card,” Angelica says. “And no, I don’t mean you need a six-pack. It’s about the energy you give off.”
Translation: If we feel like crap, we’re going to show up in life and business like crap. So what’s the fix
The Three Biggest Mistakes Women Make With Weight Loss (And How to Avoid Them)If you’re thinking, Ugh, I just need to do more cardio and eat less, STOP. You’re actually making things worse.
According to Angelica, here are the three biggest mistakes high-achieving women make when trying to lose weight:
1. More Cardio, Less Strength TrainingYou think hopping on a treadmill for an hour a day is the answer? Nope. Muscle is what actually burns fat, not endless hours of cardio. Angelica breaks it down:
“The more muscle you have, the more calories you burn. You don’t get lean from hours of cardio—you get lean from strength training.”
So put down the running shoes and pick up some damn weights.
2. Under-EatingRaise your hand if you “forgot” to eat all day, then inhaled everything in sight by 8 PM. Yeah, that’s a problem. Starving yourself during the day leads to overindulging later, and your body is not happy about it.
“Most women don’t eat enough during the day, then at night, they pop open the wine and eat their kid’s leftovers. That’s not a strategy.”
3. Ignoring Gut HealthYour gut health controls way more than just digestion—it affects weight loss, metabolism, mood, and energy levels. If your gut is out of whack, losing weight is an uphill battle.
“Your gut health is formed when you’re in the womb,” Angelica explains. “If your mother was stressed, you probably already have gut issues.”
So yes, some of us were doomed before we even took our first breath, but the good news? We can fix it.
So, How Do We Fix This? (The No-BS Approach to Finally Feeling Good)We’ve established that what we think works doesn’t actually work. So what should we do instead? Angelica lays it out plain and simple:
1. Start Your Day with Lemon WaterNo, this isn’t some weird detox trend. Drinking room-temperature lemon water in the morning stimulates digestion, detoxifies the body, and improves metabolism. And yes, it’s easy:
“Just put a bottle of water on your nightstand, grab a lemon, squeeze that bitch in, and drink it first thing.”
2. Strength Train—Even Just 15 Minutes a DayDon’t have time for the gym? Fine. Just pick up some weights at home. The goal is to build lean muscle, which torches fat and keeps your metabolism high.
3. Stop Checking Your Phone First Thing in the MorningListen, I know you do it. You wake up and immediately check emails, Instagram, the latest dumpster fire on the news—STOP. This spikes your cortisol (a.k.a. your stress hormone), and before you’ve even brushed your teeth, you’re already in fight-or-flight mode. Instead, try this:
“Do box breathing: Inhale for four seconds, hold for four, exhale for four. It calms your nervous system and sets you up for a better day.”
4. Eat for YOUR Body, Not Someone Else’s PlanForget one-size-fits-all diets. Keto, vegan, intermittent fasting—none of it matters unless it works for you.
5. Get Out of Your Own Damn WayYour body, your business, your relationships—everything starts with you. If you’re unhappy, it’s time to take ownership and make a change.
“We don’t have a time problem; we have a priority problem. If you want to scale your business and life, you need to feel good in your body first.”
Boom.
Are You Ready to Stop Settling for ‘Fine’?Look, no one is saying you have to turn into a fitness influencer overnight. But if you’re tired of feeling exhausted, bloated, and out of control in your own body, it’s time to make a change. Small, sustainable shifts can completely transform not just your body but your entire life.
Angelica isn’t just about weight loss—she’s about full-body alignment. And if you’re ready to stop just getting by and start thriving, check her out on Instagram at @theangelicaventrice.
Now, excuse me while I grab a damn lemon and start squeezing my way into better health. Who’s with me?
