Welcome to episode 2 of the Two Roads Travelled podcast. In today's show we'll be looking at addiction in prison. Jo and Paula are excited to welcome Greg who shares his story of his addiction whilst being in prison, after years of living with his father's alcoholism he began using drugs in his early teens and as a result by the time he was 16 Greg was opiate dependant. Greg's story with his addiction spanned 22 years, he was in and out of various institutions including detox, psychiatric units and prison, which were all a result of his addiction. Eventually Greg found recovery whilst in prison serving 5 years for GBH and Robbery, after maintaining a rigorous programme of recovery Greg's life has been completely transformed and he's now able to live a normal life.
Also joining the conversation is Tania who works in a female prison as a Consultant Clinical Psychologist and Trauma Informed Care Lead. Tania's role involves working with residents of the prison through one to one therapy sessions, focusing on managing and reducing risk and introducing trauma informed care to all staff members, this helps to better support residents that are likely to have experienced trauma in their life and often re-experiencing it in prison. We apologise for the sound issues, were new to podcasting but this has now been fixed going forward!
