Episode Summary
In this episode, we consider the Spirit’s role in the Trinity from the vantage point of the words of Jesus as we find them in John’s gospel. Pastor Jeff also wraps up the study on the Trinity by answering the question, “Is the Trinity practical to our lives?” This is not just a doctrine, it’s our life. This is God the Father, who loves us and gave His Son, God the Son, for us, who loves us and gave Himself for us, who loves us, and sent a Helper to us, the Holy Spirit, who now lives inside of us.
Topics We Discussed in this Episode
● [3:55] The Holy Spirit is referred to by Jesus Himself as the Helper. The Holy Spirit’s identity in the Trinity is as “another Helper”.
● [5:56] The Holy Spirit is a unique Person, not some force, cosmic power, or divine influence. The Bible speaks of the Holy Spirit as “he”, never “it”.
● [7:20] The Holy Spirit is both with the Father and with the Son. He is both co-equal and co-eternal.
● [8:42] The Holy Spirit was the agent of creation.
● [12:37] The Holy Spirit is the agent not only of creation, but also of God’s new creation in Christ.
