We interview Karen Willett of Healthy School Start Times New Canaan about the group's goal of starting school later for 7th to 12th graders.
We talk to Officer Allyson Halm, head of the New Canaan Police Department's Animal Control Section, about what locals should expect in wildlife now that spring has arrived in earnest.
We talk to New Canaan Community Foundation President and CEO Lauren Patterson.
The Town Council last week removed a $225,000 capital item from next year's budget to replace the flat roof on The Playhouse. Public works identified the need to replace the roof several years ago, and the first selectman in the wake of the budget cut called the situation at The Playhouse "dangerous." We talk to lifelong New Canaanite Beth Jones about the building and its future ownership and use. Jones while serving as a selectmen sat on the Playhouse Committee, and now sits on the Fire Commission.
We talk to Parking Commissioner Peter Ogilvie about his idea of requiring motorists to pay for parking on Elm and Main Streets. Then, we talk to New Canaan Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Tucker Murphy and Rick Franco of Francos Wine Merchants about what they think of his idea.
The main road through Waveny divides the park in an important way. We talk to Steve Karl about the profound difference to property "above" and "below" it. We also talk to local landscape architect Keith Simpson about the history of the road, and to Caroline Garrity, head of the Waveny Park Conservancy board, about the group's projects.
One of the things that weighed on Selectman Nick Williams as he cast a decisive vote regarding the "Mead Park Brick Barn" was the importance of respecting an offer from local preservationists to create a public-private partnership. We talk to Williams about that, as well as to Leo Karl III about the state of philanthropy in New Canaan.
First Selectman Kevin Moynihan launched an initiative to improve communications from Town Hall, in part through press releases to be issued to local and area news organizations. Part of the idea is to place the PR in news outlets that are increasingly under-staffed and need the content. We talk to Moynihan about his initiative, as well as UConn Associate Journalism Professor Marie Shanahan about the state of community news.
