#075 - Keith Richards Appreciated, Soul Reviewed, MF Doom Remembered

Listen Later

What makes Keith Richards a great guitarist? Glad you asked! Jay’s long considered Mr. Richards one his favorites and brings us his case this week. We dissect his style & approach to the rhythm guitar, and listen to a selection of Jay’s favorites.
Songs:

Keith Richards - “Wicked As It Seems“

The Rolling Stones - “Can’t You Hear Me Knocking”

The Rolling Stones - “Sympathy for the Devil”

The new Pixar movie “Soul” is phenomenal. The protagonist is a gifted jazz pianist, working by day as a middle school band teacher, trying to figure out what to do with his life. Greg first suggested it, but Nick got the luck of the draw presenting it this week. We break it down and listen to some clips. The jazz segments in the movie were written and performed by Jon Batiste, with the remainder of the score by Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross. It’s worth a watch, whatever your age.
Songs:

Jon Batiste - “Bigger Than Us”

Trent Reznor/Atticus Ross - “The Great Before”

As the year was closing out, news dropped that MF Doom passed earlier in the year. It’s yet another loss, but just as painful. Greg discusses the unique sound he brought to the worlds he created & how his raw talent inspired so many other artists. He will be sorely missed.
Songs:

MF Doom - “All Caps”

MF Doom - “One Beer”

MF Doom - “Live from Planet X”
