For years, people could look at my life and call me ambitious. I’m not sure I knew how much of that was actually true.
My perception of success was handed to me by my parents before I knew to question it. Get a higher education, get a good job, work hard, get married, buy a house, have kids. The good ol’ pre-scripted “linear” path.
A tiny voice in my head told me otherwise, but I didn’t listen. I didn’t know it was okay not to seek permission and to carve my own path. I tied so much of my self-worth to other people’s approval. I didn’t know how to separate what I wanted from what I had been taught to want.
That tiny voice eventually found its way into a microphone.
In 2021, I started 1-800-GOAL-DIGGER because I wanted to practice speaking, become more articulate, and create something of my own.
Somewhere along the way, it became a place to explore the unspoken realities underneath the glamorous side of success and growth, and a whole lot of other things related to identity, emotions, and ambition.
The more I examined my own life, the more I wondered about other women, women who are building impressive lives while still trying to understand who they are beyond the roles they were assigned.
