A Surprising Duolingo Example

この前、Duolingoをしていたとき、面白い例文がありました。

高校生の女の子2人が、好きな男の子の話をしていました。

すると、その男の子から女の子に、急に電話がかかってきました。

その女の子は喜ぶだろうな、と私は思っていたのですが、

「なんでメールじゃなくて、電話かけてくるの？

彼のこともう好きじゃない。」

と言っていて、びっくりしました。

最近の若い人の文化なのかな、と思ったのですが、

皆さんはどう思いますか？

このまえ、でゅおりんごを していたとき、

おもしろい れいぶんが ありました。

こうこうせいの おんなのこ ふたりが、

すきな おとこのこの はなしを していました。

すると、その おとこのこから おんなのこに、

きゅうに でんわが かかってきました。

その おんなのこは よろこぶだろうな、と わたしは おもっていたのですが、

「なんで めーるじゃなくて でんわ かけてくるの？

かれのこと もう すきじゃない。」

と いっていて、びっくりしました。

さいきんの わかい ひとの ぶんかなのかな、と おもったのですが、

みなさんは どう おもいますか？

The other day, when I was using Duolingo,

I came across an interesting example sentence.

Two high school girls were talking about a boy

that one of them had a crush on.

Then, suddenly, the boy called one of the girls.

I thought she would be happy about it, but instead she said,

“Why is he calling me instead of texting me?

I don’t like him anymore.”That really surprised me.

It made me wonder if this is part of young people’s culture these days.

Things Japanese parents always say

Threadsで面白い投稿を見つけました。

日本の親がよく子供に言う言葉、というテーマだったのですが、

コメントにあった、

「水筒出した？」「左手！」「ひじ！」「やることやってから！」

この4つは私も息子に毎日言っていることだったので、

とても面白かったです。

皆さんは、ご両親や家族によく言われた言葉がありますか？

すれっずで おもしろい とうこうを みつけました。

にほんの おやが よく こどもに いう ことば、

という てーまだったのですが、こめんとに あった、

「すいとう だした？」「ひだりて！」「ひじ！」「やること やってから！」

この よっつは わたしも むすこに まいにち いっていることだったので、

とても おもしろかったです。

みなさんは、ごりょうしんや かぞくに よく いわれた ことばが ありますか？

I found an interesting post on Threads.

It was about things Japanese parents often say to their children.

Some of the comments said:

“Did you take out your water bottle?”

“Left hand!”

“Elbows!”

and “Do what you need to do first!”

I thought it was really funny, because these are four things

I also say to my son every day.

Tokyo, but It didn’t feel like Tokyo

こないだ、等々力渓谷というところに行きました。

渋谷から電車で20分くらいなのですが、川沿いに

森が広がっていて、東京とは思えない景色でした。

夏は、街の気温より5度くらい涼しいそうです。

等々力渓谷のような場所は、東京では珍しいですが、

昔はこういう自然が、東京にもたくさんあったんだろうなと思うと、

少し寂しくなりました。

こないだ、とどろきけいこくという ところに いきました。

しぶやから でんしゃで にじゅっぷんくらい なのですが、かわぞいに

もりが ひろがっていて、とうきょうとは おもえない けしきでした。

なつは、まちの きおんより ごどくらい すずしいそうです。

とどろきけいこくのような ばしょは、とうきょうでは めずらしいですが、

むかしは こういう しぜんが、とうきょうにも たくさん

あったんだろうなと おもうと、すこし さびしく なりました。

The other day, I went to a place called Todoroki Valley.

It’s only about 20 minutes from Shibuya by train, but along the river,

there is a forest stretching out, and the scenery didn’t feel like Tokyo at all.

In summer, I heard it is about five degrees cooler than the city.

Places like Todoroki Valley are rare in Tokyo,

and when I think that there were probably

many places like this in Tokyo a long time ago,

it makes me feel a little sad.

When sakura season ends

東京では、桜が散って気温が一気に上がりました。

先週末は25度以上あって、長袖だと暑いくらいでした。

桜の季節は、桜流し、桜雨という言葉があるくらい、

実は雨が多く、寒い日が多いです。

4月中旬からは、気持ちの良い暖かさの日が多いので、

秋と並んで、観光に一番いい季節かもしれません。

とうきょうでは、さくらが ちって きおんが いっきに あがりました。

せんしゅうまつは にじゅうごど いじょう あって、

ながそでだと あついくらいでした。

さくらの きせつは、さくらながし、さくらあめという ことばが あるくらい、

じつは あめが おおく、さむい ひが おおいです。

しがつ ちゅうじゅんからは、きもちの よい あたたかさの ひが おおいので、

あきと ならんで、かんこうに いちばん いい きせつかも しれません。

In Tokyo, the cherry blossoms have fallen,

and the temperature has gone up all at once.

Last weekend, it was over 25 degrees,

and it was almost too hot for long sleeves.

Cherry blossom season actually has a lot of rain

and many chilly days so much so that there are even words

like sakura nagashi and sakura ame.

From around mid-April, there are many pleasantly warm days,

so it may be the best season for sightseeing, along with autumn.

More than just lucky cats

東京に10年以上住んでいるのですが、行ったことがない

有名な場所がたくさんあることに気づいて、

最近、観光名所に行ってみるようにしています。

この前は、招き猫で有名な豪徳寺というお寺に行きました。

大量の招き猫はもちろん圧巻でしたが、植木がとてもきれいで、

それだけでも見に行く価値があると思いました。

とうきょうに じゅうねん いじょう すんでいるのですが、いったことが ない

ゆうめいな ばしょが たくさん あることに きづいて、

さいきん、かんこう めいしょに いってみるように しています。

このまえは、まねきねこで ゆうめいな ごうとくじという おてらに いきました。

たいりょうの まねきねこは もちろん あっかん でしたが、うえきが とても きれいで、

それだけでも みに いく かちが あると おもいました。

Although I’ve lived in Tokyo for more than ten years,

I realized there are still many famous places I’ve never been to.

So recently, I’ve been trying to visit well-known sightseeing spots.

The other day, I went to a temple called Gotokuji,

which is famous for its beckoning cats.

Of course, the huge number of beckoning cats was impressive,

but the garden trees were also very beautiful,

and I felt they were worth going to see on their own.

Drinkable French toast

最近人気のある、「飲めるフレンチトースト」を食べに、

こないだ東京駅の近くに行ってきました。

開店20分前に着いたので、1周目で入れましたが、

開店してからは大行列でした👀

飲めるというだけあって、フレンチトーストはふるふるで、

今まで食べた中で、一番美味しかったです。

さいきん にんきの ある、「のめる ふれんちとーすと」を たべに、

こないだ とうきょうえきの ちかくに いってきました。

かいてん にじゅっぷんまえに ついたので いっしゅうめで はいれましたが、

かいてんしてからは だいぎょうれつでした。

のめるというだけあって、ふれんちとーすとは ふるふるで、

いままで たべた なかで いちばん おいしかったです。

The other day I went near Tokyo Station

to try the recently popular “drinkable French toast.”

I arrived 20 minutes before opening,

so I was able to get in with the first group,

but after the shop opened, there was a huge line.

True to its name, the French toast was so soft and

jiggly it almost felt drinkable, and it was the most delicious

French toast I’ve ever had.

My Tiny College Dorm Room

ふと思い出したのですが、大学1年生の頃、

大学のボロボロの寮に住んでいました。

部屋は5畳くらい、エアコンはなし、

キッチン・お風呂・トイレ・洗濯機は共同でした。

私はお風呂の前の部屋だったので、よくドアの覗き穴から、

お風呂が空いているかどうか見ていたのを、

今でも覚えています😂

皆さんは、寮に住んだことがありますか？

ふと おもいだしたのですが、だいがく いちねんせいの ころ、

だいがくの ぼろぼろの りょうに すんでいました。

へやは ごじょう くらい、えあこんは なし、

きっちん・おふろ・といれ・せんたくきは きょうどうでした。

わたしは おふろの まえの へやだったので、よく どあの のぞきあなから、

おふろが あいているか どうか みていたのを、いまでも おぼえています。

みなさんは、りょうに すんだことが ありますか？

I suddenly remembered that

when I was a first-year university student,

I lived in an old, run-down dormitory at my university.

My room was about five tatami mats,

and there was no air conditioner.

The kitchen, bath, restroom, and washing machine were all shared.

My room was right in front of the bathroom,

so I still remember that I used to check through the peephole

in the door to see whether the bathroom was available.

Strict bicycle rules

4月1日から、自転車に関する法律が厳しくなりました。

スマホを見たり、音楽を聞きながら運転すると、

罰金を払わないといけません。

自転車用の道ではなく、歩道を運転しても罰金になるらしいのですが、

東京には写真のような道が多いので、法律ではなく道路の方も

変えたほうがいいのではないかと思います。

しがつ ついたちから、じてんしゃに かんする

ほうりつが きびしく なりました。

すまほを みたり、おんがくを ききながら うんてんすると、

ばっきんを はらわないと いけません。

じてんしゃようの みちではなく、ほどうを うんてんしても

ばっきんに なるらしいのですが、

とうきょうには しゃしんのような みちが おおいので、

ほうりつではなく どうろの ほうも かえたほうが

いいのではないかと おもいます。

you may have to pay a fine.

I also heard that riding on the sidewalk instead of

on a bicycle lane can result in a fine,

but in Tokyo there are many roads like the one in this picture,

so I think it might be better to change

The “Eat it!”ceremony

ニュースで見たのですが、4月2日に栃木県の日光のお寺で

「強飯式」という行事が行われたそうです。

山伏と呼ばれるお坊さんが、6キロくらいの山盛りのご飯を、

頂戴人と呼ばれる人たちに、「食べろ！」と言います。

頂戴人はご飯を頭の上に置いて、許してください、

という気持ちを表すそうです。

面白い行事なので、来年は生で見てみたいなと思いました。

にゅーすで みたのですが、しがつ ふつかに とちぎけんの にっこうの おてらで

「ごうはんしき」という ぎょうじが おこなわれたそうです。

やまぶしと よばれる おぼうさんが、ろっきろ くらいの やまもりの ごはんを、

ちょうだいにんと よばれる ひとたちに、「たべろ！」と いいます。

ちょうだいにんは ごはんを あたまの うえに おいて、ゆるしてください、

という きもちを あらわすそうです。

おもしろい ぎょうじなので、らいねんは なまで みてみたいなと おもいました。

I saw in the news that on April 2, a ceremony called Gohanshiki

was held at a temple in Nikko, Tochigi Prefecture.

Monks called yamabushi tell people called choudainin to “Eat it!”

while presenting them with a huge mountain of rice

weighing about six kilograms.

The choudainin place the rice on their heads

to show a feeling of “Please forgive me.”

It looked like such an interesting event that I thought

I’d like to see it in person next year.

Have you ever eaten a fruit sandwich?

皆さんは、フルーツサンドを食べたことがありますか？

最近では、コンビニでも売っているくらい、フルーツサンドが

一般的になりました。

ケーキとの違いはなんだろう、と考えたことがありましたが、

多分パンが少しだけしょっぱいのが、美味しさの秘密なのではと

思います。

みなさんは、ふるーつさんどを たべたことが ありますか？

さいきんでは、こんびにでも うっているくらい、ふるーつさんどが

いっぱんてきに なりました。

けーきとの ちがいは なんだろう、と かんがえたことが ありましたが、

たぶん ぱんが すこしだけ しょっぱいのが、おいしさの ひみつなのではと

おもいます。
