    State police are investigating an accident this morning on I-95 in Bangor at a construction site. The 2020 Maine Marathon has been cancelled, but participants can still run the marathon virtually. BIW workers are now asking the US Navy to intervene in their dispute with General Dynamics, and RCV results are in for Maine's second congressional district race.

  • 1 Minute Maine 7/20/2020: Sewage Leak in Portland, 3-Digit Heat Index & Black Lawns
    The East End Beach in Portland is closed after a power outage on Sunday caused a malfunction at the adjacent water treatment plant, so keep your distance until it's cleaned up. Firefighters put out a burning car in Longfellow square this weekend, a heat advisory is still in effect for today, and if your lawn is turning black, researchers at UMaine say a fungus is to blame.

    More than 50 spiders, including tarantulas, were discovered in a motel room in Norway. Maine Game Wardens made it to the scene to deal with the critters. We have a few results in from Maine's primary elections yesterday, and Hadlock Field in Portland, usually the home of the Portland Sea Dogs, will allow fans to eat on the diamond later this month.

    The Maine Legislature may return for a new session to deal with issues like coronavirus fallout. The Maine CDC is reporting just 8 new cases of coronavirus and no additional deaths across the state over the last 24 hours. Today is primary election day in the state of Maine, with offices like US Senate, Congress, and local legislative offices on your ballot. Maine also has multiple bond issues up for a vote today. The Skowhegan State Fair is trying to hold the event in 2020 with social distancing and expanded guidelines, and the Maine Game Wardens helped to locate a missing Freeport woman just 300 yards from her home.

  • 1 Minute Maine 7/13/2020: Hatchet-Wielding Parolee Busted in Brunswick, Weekend Tornado & I-95 Construction
    This was a crazy weekend in Vacationland! A man wielding a hatchet was arrested in a Walmart parking lot for, among other things, violating conditions of his release. Residents in Bangor threw a "retirement party" for US Senator Susan Collins, as she runs for re-election to a fifth term in the United States Senate. I-95 north will undergo major construction and a reroute starting on July 22. The Pemaquid Oyster Festival's 20th anniversary event has been cancelled, and will pick it back up again next year. A Tornado touched down in Oxford County over the weekend, and Oxford Casino has reopened for patrons after months closed.

  • 1 Minute Maine 7/7/2020: Love Triangle Leads to Arrest, Rent Relief Funds Established & Weekend Rally Safety
    The billionaire founder of the Home Depot has arrived in Maine... on his $180 Million yacht. Arthur Blank docked in Portland harbor this week, and he is subject to the 14-day quarantine. WMTW is reporting that police in Saco have arrested a man for running over another man with his vehicle, and they say that the two were part of a "love triangle." The assailant has been charged, and the victim is recovering. Officials in Portsmouth, NH are considering a mask mandate ahead of president Trump's Saturday rally at Pease Air Force Base, which is expected to draw crowds in excess of CDC guidelines. The city of Portland has established a new "rent relief fund," to assist residents with missed rent payments due to the pandemic. Other Maine municipalities are also considering similar moves.

    Several bullets were fired at the Portland Police Department garage on Sunday night, and the investigation into the incident is ongoing. Four older Mainers in Cumberland Country succumbed to Coronavirus over the long weekend, striking workers at Bath Iron Works are still looking for a deal with General Dynamics leadership, and president Trump has announced a rally in Portsmouth, NH this coming weekend. Maine Forest Rangers also assisted in the rescue of a hiker over the weekend.

    Late yesterday, the Mills administration announced a new face covering requirement for coastal counties. Maine Game Wardens will increase enforcement of safety laws this weekend for the Independence Day holiday, as the Maine CDC can't say how many tourists from out of state might have the coronavirus. Bar Harbor is coming up with a system to test visitors, and the New Balance factory is temporarily closing to sanitize the facility after an employee tested positive for COVID-19.
