    Welcome to a new month! Baxter State Park has opened back up after delaying their season. The Portland Sea Dogs and all minor league baseball teams across the country have cancelled their 2020 season, due to ongoing coronavirus concerns and player contract issues. The Portland School Committee voted 7-2 to terminate their contract with school resource police officers at two high schools in the city. The United Way of Maine has received 25,000 masks for their Mask Up for ME event, and they'll start distributing them soon. Animal shelters are starting to open back up across the state, and the Maine Treasurer's Office is holding more than $260 million worth of unclaimed property.

    The board of education in Portland may vote this evening to end its relationship with the Portland Police Department and their school resource officers. New coronavirus cases have been reported this week at the Cumberland County jail and the Long Creek Youth Development Center in Portland. Smitty's Cinemas in Topsham will reopen on July 17th, but not everyone is ready to go back to the movies. Fireworks sales are booming here in Maine this summer, and a Maine superior court judge has allowed a ballot question to proceed this fall. The questions will ask Mainers if they support the new "CMP corridor."

  • 1 Minute Maine 6/29/2020: Packed Old Port, Reverse 4th of July Parade & Mainer 'Deported' from Hawaii
    Bar Harbor is planning a "reverse parade" this year, where parade-goers will walk or ride through a decorated street. All staff and residents at Portland's Long Creek Youth Development Center will be tested following a resident's positive test last week. Remember, not all Maine towns allow fireworks for the 4th of July. Check your local town before you light them off this weekend. Meanwhile, 38-year-old Sean Michal Simon was arrested in Hawaii last week after he violated that state's mandatory 14-day quarantine. Staff at his hotel reported him to local authorities, and he then allegedly confessed to leaving the hotel to make trips to the beach and local restaurants each day. He was arrested and put on a one-way flight back to Maine.

    Palace Playland and Aquaboggan in OOB and Saco are set to open back up in July, as Maine sees another 32 new cases of coronavirus in just the last 24 hours. Two stars from the smash Netflix documentary "Tiger King" are set to appear at the Bangor Comic & Toy Convention this fall... Kelci “Saff” Saffery and John Reinke will make the trip to Maine in October. Keep an eye on your power bill next month, as CMP rates are set to go up in July.

    Brad Paisley has cancelled his show set for Rock Row in Westbrook in September, due to coronavirus. The Maine Department of Labor has cancelled thousands more unemployment claims for suspected fraud, retailers and store owners are begging patrons to follow the law and cover their faces, and a bear is on the loose somewhere around Ellsworth, and police are asking for help locating the critter.

  • 1 Minute Maine 6/24/2020: New Use of Force Rules for Police, Another REAL-ID Extension & Farmington Explosion Investigation Complete
    Another extension has been approved for Mainers to get their IDs updated to the federal REAL-ID standard - The new deadline is October 1, 2021. A tractor trailer driver hit a guardrail on I-295 this morning and overturned, shutting down both lanes. The Maine Criminal Justice Academy has issued new rules for the use of force, which include directing officers to intervene with colleagues and reporting abuses by other officers to superiors. After an investigation into the cause of the deadly explosion at the LEAP building in Farmington last fall, the Maine State Fuel Board has fined a CN Brown fuel technician who filled the building's propane tank a few days before the explosion that killed one firefighter and injured several other people. He was also temporarily suspended for 15 days.

A Georgia woman at Bangor International Airport was stopped with a loaded gun at a TSA checkpoint - she claimed that she didn't know she had it with her. Maine's Catholic schools are set to return to in-person classes this fall, amid criticism, as many schools have announced online instruction plans. Bangor and Orono schools are reviewing their policies regarding school resource police officers, in light of recent events nationwide.

    An urgent call has gone out for poll workers for the July primary coming up in Maine. Another Maine public official has claimed that their account was hacked after racially insensitive material was discovered. This week, the Hancock County district attorney claimed that he didn't post a controversial statement about looters being run over. Last week, the deputy mayor of Brewer was forced to resign after police charged him with lying about a hacked account and filing a false police report. The Governor has announced an alternative to the 14-day quarantine for out-of-staters starting July 1st.
