So... it's been a minute, but I'm back for another Cinema Sunday, this week featuring my (now) roommate (then, friend), Erica Long as we discuss books and their film adaptations.  Yeah, buddy! We're back and swinging.

Today I'm joined by a friend of mine I haven't seen since eighth grade graduation, Anthony Locanto, as we discuss television, streaming services, and the infamous streaming wars. Which streaming service is the best? Apple TV+? Disney+? Good old Netflix or Hulu or Amazon Prime Video? Maybe Quibi or YouTube or Peacock? Who knows?!

In today's episode, I discuss some great documentaries that relate to BLM. I talk about Whose Street?, Becoming by Michelle Obama, Louder than a Bomb, Savage X Fenty Show by Rhianna, Birth of a Movement, A Century of Black Cinema, and TV in Black: The First 50 Years. Now, I'm not an avid documentary watcher, but all of these are amazing and have taught me so much! CHECK THESE OUT! #BlackLivesMatter

I am joined by the lovely Olivia Hyman as we discuss the importance of art, specifically photography. This episode was recorded before the civil uprising and the 2020 Black Lives Matter protests. Since then, Ms. Hyman has said that she will try to incorporate a lesson on how to light, paint, and photograph darker skin tones since it is not something that was taught at the primarily white school at which she teaches.

So, this episode was basically just me rambling about how amazing these films are. It's so important right now for us to support black voices and stories. In this episode I discuss, The Last Black Man in San Francisco, Tangerine, High Fidelity on Hulu, Jordan Peele's great films like Get Out and Us, Blueprint on Amazon Prime Video, and Hamilton which will be available on Disney + starting July 3! Happy July Fourth, fight hard this weekend for our country.

In today's Whatcha Watchin' Wednesday, I discuss some recommendations for ways to educate yourself about Black history and culture, the problem of systemic racism in society, and the power of protesting. I discuss a whole list of films and shows like When They See Us, Dear White People, If Beale Street Could Talk, The Death and Life of Marsha P. Johnson, #BlackAF, and and Disclosure. Now, in 2020, is the time to amplify Black voices and Black stories. Black lives still matter now and always.

We are back! I didn't plan on posting a podcast episode today. I didn't write a script or an outline. I just wanted, or needed, to speak, even if just into a microphone. Today, I watched Hairspray Live since Andrew Lloyd Webber posted it on his "The Shows Must Go On" YouTube Channel, and I really thought about what has been going on in the United States, in Louisville and Minneapolis, the police brutality that has been rampant not only recently but for years and decades, the violence against minority groups especially the black community. These are my not super coherent thoughts. This is me feeling. I grow speechless in this video even when I want to scream. I don't what else to say other than, I'm sorry to those who have been directly affect by violence like this. I'm sorry to minority groups. I'm sorry for those who feel like they are losing the country that they love. #blacklivesmatter
