Joe Shepherd of Tellico Plains, Tennessee commited the murders of 16 year old Roxanne Woodson and 15 year old Cathy Clowers. 

After being questioned he disappeared. It was after an October 5, 1988 episode of Unsolved Mysteries aired a segment on him, he was recaptured in London, Ontario, Canada.  

He fought extradition for a year before being returned to the United States in January of 1990.
