Starting or improving a podcast can be a HUGE mental game. If you've been producing a show for a while, there might be things that you've developed over the months and years that no longer serve you and need to be refreshed.
But what leads to the need to change?
Over the past week or so I've had to make some changes to my flagship show - the Engaging Missions Show. I've also needed to change my process and expectations to deliver this show.
When I did that, I had to come face-to-face with some of my expectations. I also learned a few things about myself that I'd forgotten.
Here's what led to the changes, some of what I've changed, and what I've learned along the way.
I think this is making me a better podcaster and maybe it'll make you a better podcaster too.

Whether you’re a brand new podcaster or a long-time veteran, you’re always looking for ways to improve. To improve as a host. To improve the audio quality of your show. To reach more people.
When I started out, one of the questions I had to answer was, “What’s the right mic to use?”
And I took some bad advice.
In this episode, I share the original mic I chose and my upgrade path to where I am now. And, as a bonus, I’ve recorded several mics side by side so that you can hear for yourself how much investment you REALLY need to get started and what a broadcast quality mic will actually get you.

You’e going along. Your podcast is going well. But there’s always the chance that you might need to adjust some things. Like I’m doing right now.
But do you know what you’ll do? Do you have a plan?
This is what I’m doing right now to adjust to the new normal so that I can continue to produce my flagship show - the Engaging Missions Show, produce this show, and also continue to consult with and edit for other podcasters. So, I’m still on my journey to help 1,000 podcasters personally.

Will your podcast destroy your beautiful family this year?
That's one question I was asking myself before I launched my podcast over 5 years ago. I was concerned because I didn't want to lose my family and I'd seen some prominent online personalities do just that.
Of course, I wasn't inside those relationships, so I have NO idea what REALLY happened. Nor do I want to.
But it was a concern.
In this episode I share a couple of the turning points that allowed me to keep going while still having time for my family. And opening up some new opportunities along the way.

When I first started as a podcaster, I wasn't very good. In fact, I was pretty bad.

But I did a few key things to improve as a podcaster. Listen to discover what led me to join a group, what I got out of that group, and some of the ways I'm now able to help other podcasters. And I really do enjoy helping other podcasters with improving their audio production, overcoming fears and anxieties, and developing the systems and processes with the right tools to help them keep going for the long haul.

There are a lot of different things to figure out before starting a podcast. One of them is how you will set yourself up do the work to continue and to be creative when things get difficult or it takes longer to get things done than you'd hoped.
Here's what I did to make it easier when I was just getting started. And, while I've tweaked some things over the last 5 years and more than 250 podcast episodes, I'm still following the same basic things I laid out for myself before I got started.
