It’s common to make mistakes when you start something new. Podcasting is no exception.
But what about regrettable decisions?
The decisions that aren’t just an annoyance but could totally cripple your podcasting experience. The decisions that could set you up for failure. The kind you can’t recover from.
Listen to discover what I did to avoid regrettable mistakes when I started podcasting 5 years ago. And I’ll also share a few things I’ve picked up along the way.

You can pick up ideas for your podcast nearly anywhere if you’re paying attention. You can pick up ideas for content. You might have some insights into how you approach, structure, or produce your show. You might even find both.

When you’re done, you’ll have discovered 5 key insights for podcasters because of my experience at the kindergarten graduation.
Maybe you’ve had a similar experience - maybe with a graduation - maybe with something else. That could become a topic for your show or might help you understand how you can make your show better.

If you’ve performed your One Up, One Down and discovered that one thing you’d like to improve is the audio quality - the sound of your show - this episode is for you. I’ll share the three things you absolutely need to control for the best possible sound as well as some ways to diagnose what might need to change.
If you’ve never performed a One Up, One Down, you can find out more about that here:

Once you’ve done that, if you’re perfectly happy with how your show sounds, great! No need to continue.
But if you hear some things that you don’t like, what I’m going to share will get you 80-90% of the way to stellar audio. It won’t require that you spend $1,000 on a new microphone. You won’t need to change to a different computer (or even necessarily add in a computer if you’re recording on your phone). And it probably won’t require that you change your editing software or tweak a bunch of knobs.

Do you like your podcast but want to improve?
If you want to make content that sounds great and is engaging, you'll need to get started (you've probably already done that). But you still need to do this one additional thing.
I talked about it yesterday but today I'm going to use my show as an example and also share an insight that I was reminded of as I was listening to Erik K. Johnson's podcast - Podcast Talent Coach.

Have you gotten past the first round of technology hurdles to launch your podcast?
Maybe you have. Maybe you've even gotten to the place where it's second nature. But how can you know whether you're making content worth listening to and sharing?
Sure, you can wait for people to un-subscribe or leave a review. You can try to get outside perspective. And those are good. But there's also something you can do yourself.
Take a lesson from a traveling evangelist whose message didn't quite hit its mark and a former colleague, Larry, who drew from his military experience to discover a framework that will help you look in the mirror, figure out what's working and what's not. Then you can build on what's working and find ways to address what could be better.
