105 - How Can Positive Psychology Improve Wellbeing with Social Entrepreneur Louis Alloro

Do you want to improve your wellbeing and certain aspects of life?  What if the way you think and behave can help you get there?  What if you could learn tools to help you?

 

We discussed these topics and more in the Weekend Wellness Hour Show with social entrepreneur and Co-Founder of The Change Lab, Louis Alloro. Louis shared his love of positive psychology and why he went into this field, becoming one of the first in the world to attain a UPenn Master of Applied Positive Psychology (MAPP) degree.

 

We spoke about what spurs us to change our lives and some of the different types of pain, including physical, social and emotional.  We touched on loneliness as a form of pain and why it’s important to seek help for it.

 

Louis dove into positive psychology and offered some tips where we can make a difference in our daily life to improve our brain functioning and mental health.  He explained when positive psychology is applied in certain aspects of mental health. 

 

We stressed the need for traditional psychological treatments when mental health has deteriorated and is in need of support to help someone through a crisis or trauma.  We even discussed toxic positivity and how that type of behavior can come across inauthentic. 

 

Louis shared how important it is to apply positive psychology tools to larger groups, including families, work teams, companies and even on the community level.  He explained how he guides people through the Wellbeing Lab to help them create different cultures in all aspects of their lives.

 

Louis is a senior fellow at the Center for the Advancement of Wellbeing at George Mason University and is currently pursuing his PhD in the School of Leadership and Change at Antioch University where he studies systems informed positive psychology, and the use of appreciative inquiry and other tools to create healthy cultures that sustain wellbeing in equitable and innovative ways.
