Your chance to go on an accessible two-hour interactive journey into the theatre of Shakespeare's era with all kinds of unusual facts and findings along the way by A Bit Lit this Saturday 15 January 2022 from 4pm  to 6pm. 

A Bit Lit is a new interactive platform which will bring together talents from the world of academia and theatre, broadening access to cutting edge research in the area - anyone, anywhere can join in over Zoom, with no prior knowledge of the topic.

As part of A Bit Lit’s commitment to bringing performance and research to communities often underserved by theatres and universities, all events will be translated into British Sign Language, live captioned and crucially for blind and partially sighted people accessible with audio description.

A Day Out in Shakespeare’s Theatre features talents from the worlds of stage and study including thespian Sir Simon Russell Beale and This is Shakespeare author Professor Emma Smith, who will introduce the event. Audiences will then hear from various contemporary academics and enjoy short films featuring performers. And then the audience will have the chance to feed into an improv performance by The Pantaloons, creating their own Early Modern play. The event is suitable for anyone aged over 14. 

Connect Radio's Toby Davey caught up with Theatre Historian, Educator, and founder member of A Bit Lit Andy Kesson to find out more about how their first online accessible event, A Day Out in Shakespeare's Theatre, came about and why it is important for their events to be accessible to all. 

Andy began by telling Toby a bit about his background, how A Bit Lit was formed at the beginning of the Covid-19 lockdowns, what people will experience if they joined A Day Out in Shakespeare's Theatre this Saturday and what other accessible events A Bit Lit might be offering throughout 2022 and beyond.
