10Backward - A LowerDecks Podcast

The third and final part of the 10Backward trip down memory lane into the first season of Enterprise. Has it been a long road, getting from there to here? Sorry… couldn’t resist! We wrap up the season with our lowpoints, our thoughts on the temporal cold war and our final thoughts.

The 10Backward crew have a fondness for exploring the more maligned aspects of Trek and Enterprise has certainly come in for it’s share of criticism over the years. So in finest 10Backward tradition and with the approach of the first new Star Trek series in over a decade, we go back to the beginning of our Trek through the stars and have a look at Enterprise’s first season.

It will come as no shock that we had so much to say that this is

episode 1 of 3 of this Enterprise retrospective. Here we discuss the pilot, Broken Bow and begin looking at the characters.

The 10Backward crew look at the Original Series episode, The Savage Curtain. An alien culture forces the crew into a battle between good and evil to study the concept. While not considered a highlight of the show, this episode does grant us some iconic figures in Trek lore. We try to reconcile how a less favoured episode can give us the enduring Surak and Kahless and see if we can discuss the Excalbian rock monster without noting his similarity to… well you know.

For this task, we recruited our first guest, Rob Chapman! Big thanks to Rob for joining us. Rob can be found on Twitter @trekkierob where I am still apologising to him for bringing him in on this topic of all the topics!

10Backward makes another foray into the world of Star Trek, The Animated Series. Once again we randomly select an episode, this time coming up with One of Our Planets is Missing. What will we find?

Star Trek 5: The Final Frontier. Often, in our experience, maligned, criticised, condemned as one of the worst of the original movies.

But is it? Is it really that bad?

Here in 10Backward, we believe in Second Chances, (Mainly because Rick get’s excited about 2 Rikers…) and so we re-watched The Final Frontier and got together to discus the films flaws, it’s highlights and overall our experience of this movie. What do we conclude? Listen to find out!

This long War! Podcasting epic finally reaches it’s conclusion as we conclude our look at Deep Space 9 and the Dominion War. Rick, Will and Richard are all on the casualty lists as they are talked out after all this! Let’s hope they can declare victory and get over to Quarks for some rootbeer!

10Backward return to our examination of War in Star Trek. After looking over TOS, TNG, VOY and ENT, we head to the Bajor sector to see how War is portrayed on Deep Space 9.

At 10Backward we like to break up our grim and epic discussions of War! with lighter moments… and what’s lighter than a Ferengi episode? But is this just a Ferengi episode? Or is it, finally, the real truth of what happened at Roswell? Weather balloons  are not the answer… Join us as we mark the recent anniversary of the Roswell incident with the chain smoking army, 3 time displaced Ferengi and Odo as a dog!

The 10Backward crew had an exciting Saturday! We travelled to Geekabilia, Lincoln and met Tim Russ! A lovely man, we then recorded a podcast all about Tuvok, the Vulcan of Voyager. To hear about our encounter, listen to the podcast! We also tried our first vlog too, which can be viewed here – https://youtu.be/DTTIXean0Yg
