Star Trek Beyond the Trailer.
The first trailer for Star Trek Beyond was released
on December 14, 2015 and was immediately and severely
criticized by the Star Trek fan community at large. Focusing too
much on action, such as James T. Kirk performing some thrilling
heroics on a motorcycle, the overwhelming fan response raised a
very interesting question: Did the combination of Justin Lin,
Director of The Fast and the Furious, in concert with the explosive
styling of this trailer, cause an unjust reaction from the fans
based solely on some ninety seconds of footage?
On this episode of Standard Orbit, we will take and in-depth
look at the speculation surrounding the trailer, delve deeper into
why the fans reacted in such a volatile manner and go even further
… beyond the trailer itself. Two days after the trailer's
release, Simon Pegg told audiences, “There’s a lot more story, and
a lot more character stuff, and a lot more of what I would call
‘Star Trek stuff.’ But, you know, they’ve got to bring a big
audience in, they’ve got to bang the drum. So to Star Trek fans,
I’d say hang in there, be patient."
