118: Soul Contracts – Karmic Ties and Invisible Agreements

Listen Later

In this special episode recorded from the heart of Bali just before the second round of my sold out Recharge and Renew retreat: I’m sharing reflections inspired by the powerful 1:1 coaching calls I’ve had with so many beautiful souls this past week.

At the centre of it all? Soul contracts.

We’ll explore the idea that certain relationships, challenges, and life patterns may not be coincidences but sacred agreements made by your soul before you arrived in this lifetime.

Together consider this your introduction to soul contracts: foundations and basics. We’ll dive into what soul contracts are, how to recognise them, and what they might be here to teach you especially in the moments that stretch or break you open.

This episode is for anyone asking:
“Why do I keep attracting this?”
“Why won’t this person leave my life or people like them?”
“Is there a deeper reason for my pain or my connection?”

Tune in for a grounded yet mystical exploration of purpose, karmic ties, spiritual growth and the beautiful sometimes messy journey of being human.

  • Introduction to Soul Contracts from Bali

Hello beautiful soul, and welcome back to the podcast.

I’m coming to you today from the lush, humming heart of Bali—a place that is definitely one of my soul homes and just being here is like breathing with such spirit. I’m chilling by the pool, grounded, surrounded by lush green, and getting ready to begin the second round of my sold-out Recharge and Renew retreat.

It’s been a powerful, humbling, and deeply moving lead up to the retreat already. If you’ve ever been to Bali, you’ll know… there’s something different in the air here. Something sacred.

I’ve had so many 1:1 coaching calls and something kept coming up… Soul contracts.

Why certain people cross our paths. Why we feel instantly connected to some, and so deeply challenged by others. Why the same lessons seem to knock again and again, until we finally open the door.

So in today’s episode, we’re going to gently explore that. From right here in Bali, I invite you to come with me into a deeper understanding of the soul-level agreements that might be shaping your path more than you realise.

What if the people in your life, the lessons you keep learning, the patterns that seem to follow you—they’re not random? What if you chose them? Or, more accurately, what if your soul did?

This episode isn’t about blind belief. It’s about listening to your deeper knowing. It’s about holding a new lens up to your life and asking, “What if there’s more going on beneath the surface?

    What is a soul contract?

A soul contract is believed to be an agreement made by your soul before you were born about the people you’ll meet, the challenges you’ll face, and the themes your life will revolve around.

It’s not about punishment or reward. It’s about evolution.

These contracts are said to be written in the energetic realms, not in words—but in intention, vibration, and mutual agreement between souls.

Picture this: before incarnating, your soul enters a kind of council. A gathering of guides, elders, and other souls you’ve journeyed with across lifetimes. Together, you map out what you want to learn this time around. Maybe you want to understand unconditional love. Or personal power. Or forgiveness.

Then, you find other souls (some loving, some challenging) who agree to help you through a journey of learning and unlearning those things, by playing very specific roles in your life.

    The roles people play

That soulmate you met in your twenties? Maybe you knew them in three lifetimes before this one.

That ex who broke your heart? Maybe they were a sacred mirror, showing you the places you still needed to heal.

That parent you struggle with… maybe their soul agreed to play that role so that you could step into your independence, your truth, your power.

Soul contracts aren’t always about harmony. In fact, sometimes they’re about friction. Because friction creates growth. It makes fire. And fire can purify.

Let me be clear: this doesn’t mean we excuse harmful behavior.

Believing in soul contracts isn’t about spiritual bypassing. It’s not about saying “everything happens for a reason” while ignoring pain. It’s about looking for meaning through the pain—not ignoring it.

You can honour the soul lesson without accepting mistreatment.

Karma, choice and free will in soul contracts relationships

Now let’s talk about something many people ask:

If everything is chosen ahead of time, then do we really have free will?

    Here’s how I understand it:

Soul contracts create the framework, not the script.
Think of life like a stage. Your soul picks the set, the other characters, maybe even the major plot lines. But how you respond—that’s up to you.

Free will is your power to shift, to grow, to say “no more.”

And karma? Karma isn’t punishment—it’s energy returning to its source. A ripple becoming a wave. So many soul contracts are about balancing karma. Healing things left unfinished. Not to hurt you—but to complete you.

    Recognising soul contracts

So how do you know if someone is part of a soul contract?

    Sometimes it’s that instant connection.

That feeling of, “I know you.”
It’s intense. Magnetic. Sometimes beautiful. Sometimes messy.

Other times, it’s not so romantic. It’s a boss who challenges your confidence. A friend who keeps disappearing. A child who triggers all your fears.

If a relationship feels charged—emotionally loaded, repetitive, or significant in your story—it may be karmic. It may be a soul contract.

Here’s a question you can ask when you’re in the thick of a pattern or a painful dynamic:

“What is this here to teach me?”

The lesson is the gift and once it’s learned, the contract can be completed.

So what happens when we don’t want a contract anymore?

    Breaking soul contracts

Can we break it? Rewrite it?

    Yes and no.

Some soul contracts are meant to last a lifetime. Others dissolve when the lesson is learned. Think of it like a teacher-student relationship. Once you graduate, the class ends.

You might find that certain relationships shift completely when you stop needing them to be something they’re not. Or when you reclaim your power within them.

In spiritual practices like meditation, prayer, and energy healing, some people do consciously release old contracts especially ones that no longer serve their path, I’ve helped many clients do that.

It begins with awareness and it unfolds through intention.

    Past lives and soul groups

Some believe we travel in soul groups: clusters of souls who incarnate together again and again. We play different roles each time.

This time, you’re the daughter. Next time, maybe the mother.

This time, the villain. Next time, the healer.

    It’s not personal. It’s evolutionary.

When we see relationships through this lens, something softens. Forgiveness becomes easier (and remember its first and foremost for you) Compassion becomes possible.

    Working with soul contracts

If you want to begin working with the idea of soul contracts, here are a few prompts to journal with or meditate on:

    – Who in your life triggers deep emotion—good or bad—and why?

    – What patterns or lessons keep repeating in your relationships?
    – If this situation were a teacher, what would the curriculum be?

You can also try a meditation where you imagine sitting with the other soul involved. Ask, “What are we here to learn from each other?”

Sometimes, what comes up is unexpected but it’s often the beginning of true healing.

If you want to go deeper I invite you to work with me 1:1!

So, whether or not you fully believe in soul contracts, I invite you to consider this:

Until next time, be gentle with your process and soul journey.
